Intaglio 2005-06 Commences with 'Shastrarth' at IIM Calcutta

Intaglio 2005-06, the Annual Business Festival of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, commenced with the Shastrarth Paper Presentation Competition. The Shastrarth paper presentation contest is a flagship event inviting papers in three functional areas of management - Finance, Marketing, and Systems. The contest has proven to be wildly successful in past festivals with superlative entries from some of the best teams across the world.

The Shastrarth-Finance contest explores a wide variety of topics from the volatility of stock markets to information flow across financial statements. Shastrarth-Marketing invites creative ideas, tempered by the practicality of their application in real life business scenarios. Finally, Shastrarth-Systems considers the question of pre-empting the highly dynamic pace of business using new-age information management tools.

Competition for the coveted Swiss Knife Trophy was also thrown open with the launch of Shastrarth. Swiss Knife is an honour awarded every year to the team that outperforms the rest of the competition. The recognition carries with it the Swiss Knife trophy and a cash award of INR 1,00,000.

As part of the Selling Point Marketing Expo this year, Intaglio presents the Case Study Contest Clash of the Titans. It is essential for an organization to develop a sound strategy for finding and entering new markets with its current product or service range or a new product and service range. The case involves framing marketing strategies to understand and match the capabilities of a firm to the opportunities available in the market.

The ongoing Electrisk Competition deals with managing risk in highly volatile financial markets. Competitors seek to balance intuitive reasoning with theoretical models as they take calculated risks. The key to winning the competition lies in a mastery of investment models and valuation techniques.
