GIM's 'Ribandar Talks' Feature Jayaraman Iyer, Chairman & MD - Stock Holding Corporation of India Ltd. As a part of "Ribandar Talks - A lecture series by eminent personalities", a student driven initiative, Goa Institute of Management organized a talk by Mr. Jayaraman Iyer, Chairman & Managing Director - Stock Holding Corporation of India Ltd. (SHCIL). "Success is to be identified by oneself and not by others" Mr. Jayaraman Iyer spoke about "Planning For a Successful Management Career". Planning is required when one has to achieve something. Once the objective is in mind then the way to achieve that will depend on the resources available. Many a times, it is felt that success means achieving a goal, but true success is when one achieves the goal with the optimum use of the resources available and within the set time-frame. One should plan based on one's values and the vision he has in mind. Values have a strong role in deciding the means of achieving the goal. Success is to be identified by oneself and not by others. We usually measure our success by how others judge us, due to which we are misled. It is not only important to plan and reach your objective, but it is also important to have control on what you achieved. While working in an organization one thing to be remembered is that "Truth is never perceived. Perception is truth". It is not only important to be hard working and sincere, we should also be perceived to be hard working and sincere. Many a times Management Graduates fail because even though they have knowledge and resources, they don't have the urge to succeed and also the need to prove themselves. And finally, it is only when one is tried and tested by nature and events that the true self emerges. These were some of the points discussed in Mr. Iyer's talk. Concluded.
