IIM, Kozhikode to Organize its Annual Management & Cultural Festival - Backwaters '10

Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode will be celebrating its Annual Management & Cultural Festival - Backwaters'10 during 15th-17th January 2010. The event is organized each January to provide a competitive platform to management students from B-schools across India as well as abroad.

The students compete in various events in each of the management verticals held over a period of one month with the finals being held on the campus during these three days. The management events are also accompanied by cultural events held at the same venue.

This year's edition of Backwaters is based on the theme Res-litis (Latin n. Business Battle) where the warrior traits of the competitors will be tested. Participation is expected from more than 70 B-schools for the various events. White Knight, the Social Business Plan competition, is the flagship event and has already seen more than 125 teams presenting their business ideas for the upliftment of the nation and society. Business simulation games

Quizzes

Marketing exercises

Debates

Presentations

While the cases-studies test the students on their business acumen and the quizzes on their knowledge of various domains, the simulation games provide an engaging exercise for the management students. Labyrinth - the online treasure hunt is expected to once again generate the great response from last year in intriguing the minds of students as well as corporate participants with its unique blend of puzzles.

The event will be providing a great platform for the students to interact with experts from the industry and learn from their valuable experience. Backwaters '10 will have TiE, Cognizant, ITC, Union Bank of India, Lenovo, Gold Simulations, Vodafone, Nokia, Indigo Nation, Zapak, Tata McGraw Hill Education, Kerala IT and Red FM as its event partners among others.

Backwaters '10 will be living up to its legacy of being amongst the largest B-school fests in the country in terms of magnitude, number of events, participation as well as the prize money offered to the participants. The organizing team expects the size of the event to be of the order of Rs. 40-50 lacs this year, a recovery as compared to the slightly lowered budgets last year owing to the recessions in the economy. The Backwaters '10 website has already received more than 2 lac hits in the few weeks since it has been launched.

The fierce management competitions will be complemented by the cultural events. Apart from the various dance and music competitions, the 'Battle of Bands' and the performance by the band 'Indian Ocean' at the amphitheatre on campus promise to add the required glamour to the event.
