Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam During His lectures at IIM, Indore

Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the Scientist turned President turned Teacher is one of those individuals whom every Indian is proud of. He shall be gracing the campus of IIM Indore during a 2 day visit to teach the students of the Post Graduate Programme.
His lectures and workshop shall be centered on the topic - "Leadership for the Billion".

Excerpts from the Lectures

Lecture 1 - "Birth of Vision for the Nation"

"Competitiveness is powered by knowledge; the knowledge is powered by technology & innovation"

Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

Some of the questions discussed by Dr. Kalam included:

  • When you choose your professional career, how do you see yourself being a job generator?
  • Do you think GDP is a good measure for evaluating the integrated development of a nation? What could be ways to improve the growth measurement techniques?
  • Have you come across a person, society or institution which has shown great leadership and inspired you?
  • Few nations are developed and hundreds of nations are still developing. How can we bring peace and prosperity to the entire world in this dynamic scenario?
  • In response to Qs. 2, Dr. Kalam suggested an index, NPI (National Prosperity Index), which would include 3 components, GDP growth rate, economic equality in the nation and value created in the nation. He also spoke about how an enlightened society can be evolved through value-based education, spirituality and economic development.

During the lecture, Dr. Kalam presented various views on how we would like to see IIM Indore students to be remembered as and subsequently asked each participant to write down their views on the same.
