Humour and Drama Came Together to Reinforce the Importance of Social Welfare at MDI, Gurgaon

Business education saw a new dimension on Sunday when humour and drama came together at MDI, Gurgaon, to reinforce the importance of social welfare to students from top B-Schools. The campus played host to the current crown jewel of Hindustani poetry, Dr. Kumar Vishwas, who mixed dry humour with thought-provoking literature to express and encourage patriotism through his engaging wit.

The star of the evening also had the company of the best of Indian poets, who joined him at MDI’s first-ever Hasya Kavi Sammelan, a unique feature in any B-School. A series of street plays served to strengthen the spirit as students from B-Schools as well as from Delhi University kept the crowd intrigued all afternoon. The plays kindled sensitivity towards awareness regarding prevention of AIDS, responsible drinking and women empowerment among the future leaders of Corporate India. Apart from B-Schools, participants included students from Kamla Nehru college, LSR and Jesus Mary College. The teams participated with high enthusiasm and displayed performances that were unanimously acknowledged to be conducted very “professionally” by the judges from SABMiller and HT Media.

The evening received a grand conclusion when music band Indian Ocean had the students, faculty and staff swaying to their tunes as they dished out one piece after another of contemporary Hindustani music fused with western sounds. The popular number ‘Bande’ had the crowd on its feet every time it was played.

The glitz accompanied a number of lively activities that combined fun with learning for MDI as well as close to 200 students from other top B-Schools and colleges from across the country. Imperium 2009 was an event conducted with a vision to bring together the brightest young minds of the country.
