"Confluence 2009" International B-school Summit to be Held at IIM, Ahmedabad
    Theme: "Survive, Sustain, Succeed"
    On November 27-29, 2009

IIMA's international B-school summit, Confluence 2009, is set to begin on November 27th. In its short 10-year history, Confluence has become a boardroom name. Past luminaries who have attended Confluence include Deepak Jain, the Dean of Kellogg's school of business, M. Muthuraman, CMD, Tata Steel, Sam Pitroda, the father of India's telecom revolution amongst many others.

Confluence surely claims the topmost calendar space for any Indian B-School student. According to Kishore Biyani, MD & CEO of Fortune group, "If you are at Confluence, you have arrived". Year after year, the foremost minds in academia, industry and polity gather at Confluence to discuss the world's most exigent issues. Because, at Confluence, the world is listening.

This year's edition of the International B-School Summit shall look at internalizing the lessons from the recession. Accordingly, this year's theme is "Survive, Sustain, Succeed". On a policy level the meet shall look to analyze the drivers of India's resilient growth namely its regulated financial apparatus and more importantly its strong internal demand. The recession has also resulted in a realization that true success shall need to couple long-term sustainability with the progress and growth of human society. Hence, the meet focuses on evolving the definition of success to include equity for all and sustainability for the planet.

This year's speakers include the Chairman of SEBI, Mr. C. B. Bhave and Dy. Governor of RBI, Dr. Shyamala Gopinath representing the regulatory and policy-making bodies. Representing the industry will be Mr. Shailesh Rao, MD of Google India, Mr. Rajat Nag, MD of Asian Development Bank, Dr. Preetha Reddy, MD of Apollo Hospitals among many others. Representatives from the media include Mr. Paul Beckett, South Asia Bureau Chief for The Wall Street Journal and noted journalist Mr. Paranjoy Guha Thakurta. They will be joined in the discussions by eminent professors from IIM Ahmedabad and other institutes.

The highlight among the events includes Corporate Combat, which puts the brightest students from the best management institutions across India in the role of warriors. They don the shoes of today's CEOs and go through three days of rigorous mental exercises and decision making situations, fighting it out against the most adverse conditions they may ever face as future managers. The best ones come out at the top, but no one leaves without having learnt some important lessons about business.

MasterPlan, the B-Plan competition has established itself as one of the country's premier competitions in its short history. Given the conference's theme this year business plans shall be judged on how scalable, relevant and sustainable are the opportunities that result from their implementation. MasterPlan is Confluence's flagship event with active involvement of industry professionals at various stages of the competition which results in maximum channelization of the participants' efforts and a quality of plans that is the envy of many.

India is opening up its wings and metamorphosing from a shy isolated country to one that has fruitful alliances with many global players. One of the ways to achieve these associations have been strategic mergers and acquisitions with multinationals. Globalization Challenge presents such scenario to participants where they have to look beyond Indian shores to survive, sustain and succeed. The three days of confluence are interspersed with several workshops that provide a hands-on experience on how to approach a problem and work towards its solution. The workshops have gained immense popularity amongst both students and working professionals over the years.

Along with workshops the MSP and Management Simulation Games make an enviable offering for any manager to test and hone her team-work and problem-solving skills in a hands-on manner. The Management Students Program offers a platform for participants to interact with leaders from the industry as well as students from other B-Schools. MSP participants are invited to attend the lecture series and panel discussions that follow each session at Confluence followed by interaction with the distinguished speakers.

Another highlight of the event is the blood donation camp. Coordinated by Mr. Himanshu Bhatt, the camps are conducted regularly on campus and so far over 3000 units of blood have been collected.

The fest ends with Bizquizitive, one of the most sought after Business Quiz Competitions in India. The participation is open to all the students and that makes it so much more challenging and informative. It draws a crowd of over 1000+ audience and provides a befitting finale to Confluence 2009, the perfect crescendo to end a joyful symphony.
