CAT 2009 Second Phase Test Begins with 11,000 Aspirants in Line

Much awaited CAT 2009 second phase of test started today at various locations but not without its share of glitch. The test which was earlier scheduled to start at 10 am was again postponed to 12.00 noon to utter dismay of MBA aspirants who were already quite harassed due to second phase of testing.

IIMs (Indian institutes of management) had earlier fixed 30th and 31st January of 2010 for the second phase of CAT 2009 to accommodate students who could not give tests at first attempt due to computer failure, mismanagement and other issues.

About 11,000 candidates are appearing for the second phase of CAT 2009 which is being held at 46 test centers across India including 9 in Delhi though exact number of candidates appearing for second phase is not known. The students who have been given a second chance have been chosen on the basis of various criterions including analysis of calls and emails received from the candidates, site reports filed by the site managers, computer logs and information gathered from websites and blogs. An official from the CAT committee said," Equity and fairness requires that candidates who have suffered during the 1st phase be given an opportunity to complete the test this time."

Due to all the technical faults until now, it is quite clear that the results will be delayed. Earlier it was to be declared on 22nd Jan but now it is expected on 15th of Feb, however admission process is expected to unchanged though there is an issue of court case which was filed in Bangalore.

The delayed result will leave the students with less time to prepare for GD and interview.

The first phase of CAT examination, which was marred by technical glitches, affected at least 241,000 Masters in Business Administration aspirants who had registered for the first online CAT examination scheduled from Nov 28, 2009 and created quite a bad press for IIMs for the mismanaging whole affair, though its not the first time that CAT has been in limelight for wrong reasons. One of the toughest exams on the world has been in focus for last many years for lot of fiasco including paper leakage, reservation row, server failure as well as exam cancellation.

Concluded.
