IIM Shillong Students Win Accolades in Competitions Across Major B-Schools

At IIM Indore

The youngest IIM in the country made its presence felt in the B School circuit, in style. First it was Kalpavriksha, one of the showcase events of IIM Indore's annual fest Ahvan. This business plan competition was won by second year students from IIM Shillong (Mr. Hari Krishnan and Mr. Neeraj Sharma) who beat competition from all other IIMs and other premier B Schools in the country.


Then it was time for Ashwamedha, IIM Indore's flagship event which carried a grand prize of Rs. 1,50,000/- and had corporate participation along with participants from every premier B School in India, including all the IIMs. Mr. Ashutosh Dixit, another student of IIM Shillong, won the competition and was selected as the best manager.

At IIM A - Confluence

Next it was IIM Ahemdabad which witnessed the rise of IIM Shillong during the annual B school meet at IIMA, Confluence. The Business plan competition at Confluence, Masterplan, is one of the most prestigious B Plan contest in Indian B Schools. Out of the seven teams selected for the finals, two teams from IIM Shillong were selected. Later the team of Mr. Hari Krishnan and Mr. Neeraj Sharma from IIM Shillong were given the first prize along with the team from ISB Hyderabad.

Courses and Special Events

Sports Management
IIM Shillong has roped in Prof. Doughlas Michele Turco, a sports management specialist from Drexel University, USA to undertake a course in Sports Management for the second year students. This has given the participants totally different look and view towards sports as a career opportunity. Along these lines a conference was also organized in association with Assam sports and Youth Welfare Department focusing on Sports as an Agenda for Employment Generation. As per Prof. Turco entrepreneurship in sports has increased manifold with non-competitive and recreational sports becoming overwhelmingly popular across the world and this presents an opportunity and incentive to undertake steps this direction.

Golf Cup
In order to foster teamwork and ability to bring out individual through sports, IIM Shillong organized the second season of the Golf Cup on 5-6th December 2009. The tournament is organized and conducted by the students and involves participation from the academic as well as Corporate circles. The tournament is an attempt to facilitate an interface between the cream of the Corporate and Academic worlds. The way forward is to make this tournament the most talked about amateur golf tournament within the next coming years.

This year's tournament saw participation from major B-Schools including IIM A, IIM C, IIM L, NITIE, S. P. Jain and ISB. Over 50 corporate from leading business groups like Apeejay group, ONGC, TATA, Times Group also participated.

Magazines

Markathon
Markathon, the monthly marketing magazine of IIM Shillong's marketing club, has gained enormous popularity amongst students from premier Indian B schools in a short span of just over a year. The magazine receives articles from students of all the IIMs and other top B schools in the country. Markathon has also been able to get interviews from eminent personalities like Mr. Nirmalaya Kumar (Professor of Marketing, London Business School), Mr. Dipak Jain (Former Dean, Kellogg School of Management) and Ms. Nadia Chauhan (Joint Managing Director and CMO, Parle Agro) amongst others. With the huge following the magazine has gathered in the last one year it is set for glory in the years to come.
