I-GRID - IMT's Bikers' Club

- by Sanjeev Prakash *

On a rainy March night, a group of twenty student managers, from Institute of Management Technology, launched I-GRID, the Bikers' Club. It was an idea conceived by the first years' (currently in second year), which took the college by storm. All one needs to join this group is a flair for adventure and a bike or a pillion.
There are no interviews or selection criteria. The only condition for joining the group is adhering to road safety rules.

The first trip was to India Gate in New Delhi, around 30 km from the IMT Campus. The night was wet and the idea was to enjoy the great weather after a few days of really scorching heat. The trip started at around 2:00 in the morning and people were back in campus by 6:00 in the morning after enjoying a great ride and an equally great breakfast at the dhabas near Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station.

I-Grid's second trip happened in the month of June within a week of college re-opening. The trip was to Surajkund, a lovely place around 50 km from the campus.

With the success of the two trips, the club was made official and launched to the juniors during their orientation programme. It was a great success with the juniors also and the current membership has gone to 60 in just three months of its inception.

The rules for joining the I-GRID are pretty simple: -

  • You need to wear a helmet

  • No dangerous driving

  • Always respect the road

Following these rules is very important for any member who becomes a part of the club.

More trips are planned once the first years' settle in the campus. The main aim of starting the club was to infuse some fun in the daily life of the student managers and bring refreshment in their life. As the tag-line of the club goes, "It's not about the destination, it about the journey."

    Concluded.
