Most firms might have a detailed selection procedure. Procter & Gamble has problem solving tests, ITC has a psychological test. The big companies are well known, admired for the training they give and people with experience are in great demand eg. Xerox, HLL.

Because the turnover is low, vacancies with each firm are low unlike in software. Most firms hire a small number every year and the competition is much stronger. To get a great job you must have sound educational background, pleasant personality and ample proof of your leadership and organising ability. Most big companies go for higher recruitment for big Institutes and for middle management to the medium Institutes along with medium companies.

Many of the top people in the industry have been around for some time. So they are unwilling to believe your promises to set back the wrongs by next full moonlit night. Therefore don't fake or throw around in an Interview, unless your practising for your Oscar award ceremony.

Be prepared to demonstrate your interested in the FMCG world. But be prepared to justify your answers with sound, convincing replies.

For marketing position, you are often asked a promotion strategy with a given situation. You will invariably will be asked about the product of your present companies, their prices, about the competition-who and why and the ever present dig daddy of all questions - why you want to leave when you are performing well.

Be smiling in an interview and try to answer as calmly as you would answer a customer/retailer's query in the field.
