Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have invited applications for Common Admission Test 2010, popularly known as CAT. It is an all-India entrance test conducted by the IIMs for admission into the various postgraduate programme in management, along with being a gateway for 9 IIMs its also a gateway for around 140 top Non IIM B-Schools.

It is to be mentioned that CAT exam would be conducted between 27th October to 24th November. This time also it would be online but the window will be open for 20 days.It will be conducted over a longer duration but in fewer test centres. Extending the window from 10 day to 20 day was a conscious decision in order to keep a buffer space. The selected list of 33 test cities  have already been announced for it.

The sale of vouchers would be made between 30th August to 27th September. Registration process would be from 30th August to 30th September. The price of CAT voucher has been kept same i.e. 1400 and 700 for SC,ST. In comparison to last year, CAT announcement has been done much earlier. It would help Non IIM B Schools to complete the admission process in time. It would also help students to plan well for the exam.

Last year technical glitches had marred CAT 2009, and it is for that reason that Prometric, that got the five-year

contract to conduct computerised entrance test, has changed its local partner. This firm has tied-up with MeritTrac

Services and Everonn - to conduct the entrance exam this year, discontinuing its association with NIIT.

Test Pattern revealed
The entire process and the test pattern remain absolutely the same as in CAT 2009. The test will be of 2 hours and 15 minutes duration. It will have 60 questions divided into 3 sections with +3-1 marking scheme (which should mean 4 options per question).
