XLRIs executive MBA programmepopularly known as General Management Programme (GMP), is now AICTE approved. One of the oldest executive MBA programmes in India, AICTE approved it on the condition of increasing the course duration from 12 months to 15 months.

XLRIs GMP is a one year executive MBA course that attracts aspirants with more than 5 years of work experience. It is for the very first time that AICTE has approved a one-year diploma course of a leading b-school.

According to AICTE regulations, any programme of less than two years or 15 months duration is considered as certificate programme. This was one of the reasons why the course duration has been increased to 15 months. Students will be eligible for higher studies both in India and abroad. It will be of help for government jobs where recognized diplomas are needed, said Fr E Abraham, director of XLRI.

The approval came only a few days ago, however the admission for 2012-13 has already been done in the month of April. We have informed the prospective students about the increase in duration through our offer letter. They will join being aware about the new duration of 15 months, Fr Abraham added. He also told that the increased duration will have features helpful for the students learning and development.

When asked if there shall be any changes in the fee structure due to the increased course duration, Fr Abraham said, one of the benefits of getting a programme approved by AICTE is that service tax will not be charged.

The only snag that was being associated with the increased course duration was the timing of placements. Though Fr. Abraham do not see it as a hitch, he said, GMP students are primarily for niche placements and so they need not always be considered during the annual cycle.
