While private messages between users have been already there, new version introduces the public messaging system, allowing users to communicate publicly via their profile pages.
You can go to the profile of any user by clicking on the user profile link and leave a message on the profile page of the user which is viewable by everyone. The message which you will leave will appear under the visitor messages.
