Hello people,

I am two years old into my mba program. Few of those crucial initial decisions that i had to make after joining college was, which laptop?. Its a question which occupied my, and i'd dare say very many others', thoughts for quite some time.

Why dont all of you give your views on which laptop is the best fit for a B School student..

Well, as for me, after weighing Dell Inspiron, Vostro and XPS, I finally opted for Vostro 1510. It did take over 2 weeks for delivery. Now its three weeks old in my custody, and I am very happy with its performance. Ofcourse, its not much of a gaming machine, but trust me, gaming would be the last thing an MBA student 'll think of. Vostro looks sleek, is light weight, and has a fair amount of battery life. Enough to keep me happy.

I use Vista Home Basic. That was the one which came bundled with my vostro. I was a patron of XP, and never liked Vista.. but then now that I have started using it, I am getting to like it. Its not all that bad. Anyways, I still use MS Office 2003, and not 07.

you are lucky. I think vista is sheer useless software. frankly i am yet to figure out as how to get Run command in Vista. Its simply not there.

Looks like Vista team want ppl to migrate to Apple

 talking of apple, they had come to our college to offer a bulk deal to the students. they featured the three variants of mac notebook.. the small one, the big one, and mac air. Must say those are awesome gadgets. But the deal didnt work out cuz of the price.. students were just not ready to pay 50k.. even after the discounts.

what is cost of your vostro?? You guys bought Dell in bulk deal or bought from the website?

Now you have got Dell its good but remember Dell has lost almost 98% slaes in US on account of quality issues. Try calling Dell support in India, it will be minimum 30 minute call waiting and its horrible.

My Vostro cost me near to 53k, but that aint bulk deal. I wantd heavy customization, so chose to buy one individually. If i remember right, the bulk deal costed around 40k with one year complete cover and dell back pack. It was a good deal. around 4k less than what u get from the website.
Yes, there are performance related issues with Dell laptops. But i guess unless u are a pro-gamer, or 3D designer, u needn't bother. And personally i feel whatever brand the laptop is, it is hard to stretch its life beyond 3-4 years.

hi

you are right about laptop life or ay any comp life but i think navigating with Vista is pain and Apple is expensive. its high time that they shall bring its price down.

Yea, about the Apple price.. While they were making presentation in our college, students did ask about the high price. And then the guy was like.. these are the benefits, quality products, apple has a brand value, customers should become more educated about the offerings, blah blah.. and so the price is justified. Well, I would say he did a poor job convincing the audience. Cuz finally when it came to buying 99% of the students went for Vostro 1510, and 2 went for Macbook. So much for price and quality! :)

But to be noted, I happened to work on one of those Macbooks.. its really cool. the touchpad is a whole new experience. and it looks really nice. But then again.. aam admi would still be skeptical.

footnote - Whether u like it or not, if to beat Microsoft, Apple has a long way to make up.
