Consulting is one of the nmost sought after career in MBA field and saw its peek from 1990 to 2000 where it was considered almost impossible to see a drop in this profession. at one time it was considered that Consulting is a recession proof industry and is better than investment banking. but post 2002, consulting has seen a consideravble decline in its position with major consulting firms incurring huge losses and not able to deliever what they promise.
Mckinsey's food report on india which was published in 1997 almost become a major joke and source of embaressment.
TISCO rejected McKinsey report and emerged as the most admirable low cost steel producer.

having said that, consulting and strategy in any business is very imortant thing and sometime help a business to discover the unchartered paths. Like BCG model of McKinsey 7s model are very powerful tools for any business
