Dear Consultant,
I am a B.E graduate from Bangalore University (passed out in 2001((1997-2001 batch)).
I am 27 years of age. Though I have good academic record (75% + aggregate) in BE. Working as a Technical Support Engineer for a Software Product firm for the Past 1-1/2 years. I also have a gap of 3 yrs b/w 12th Standard and B.E.
I am planning to do MBA from any of top 10 B-Schools. Assuming I clear the Cut off score of these institutions. Will my age of (27 years) will work as disadvantage in getting a call for next stages,i.e GD,Interview?. Pls give a detailed reply.

dear ganesh
ur kind of experience is rare ...
if u join any of the top 10 b-schools im sure many
co.s will be chasing u during the final placements..
u definitely hv an advantage over others...though not directly in GD/intw...
the advantage is something like this:
1.even if u hv a lesser score in the written u'll make the cut-off while r calls r sent out, thanks to ur work-ex
2.the final selection is made as follows:
written - 50% weightage
GD- 20%
intw-20%
work-ex=5%
acads/extracurr=5%
so u get that extra 5% thanks 2 ur work-ex
and there r some b-schools like SPJAIN which give more importance to guys with work-ex..ur 27 yrs is no big deal .. there r guys older than u in many b-schools..
dats abt it..plunge right in..
all the best

There is certainly no upper limit on age while pursuing an MBA. While there is a recommended age bracket and an average age most schools have, you're well withing the bracket so no sweat! In fact, most B-schools abroad actually insist on an average age of 26-27 years for entrants as a 3-4 year work ex is pretty much a mandate. Lot of B-schools in India are also becoming cognizant of this as it is believed to add more value to both the student as well as the class. And with your experience, you will definitely benefit by bringing work-related situations to the classroom and learning the most from them.
