Hi,

I have been admitted to Asian Institiute of Management, Manila.

I hear it is one of the best schools in Asia, but donot have any information other than "it is one of the best schools in Asia"

Can you provide more information? esp class preofiles, reputations, placement or any other info which is required for an MBA student to take the plunge.

Thanks & Regards,
Vaibhav

Congratulations Vaibhav!

AIM certainly is one of the best schools in Asia...It counts in the league of some of the IIMs, ISB and Melbourne Business School, etc.

While the class profile is very diverse, the student profile is essentially Asian. There is literally an absence of European and American voice at the school and that to my mind is the biggest drawback of AIM.

A substantial amount of B-school learning results out of sharing of experiences and not necessarily classroom teaching. It is here that you will miss the American and European perspective the most.

The other drawback is on the placement front. You will necessarily have to focus on Asia in your job search, given the abundance of B-Schools in the US and Europe who obviously prefer graduates from local schools irrespective of their nationalities.

With Asian economies, you face two large problems-one of them being that the value of an MBA is yet to reach the level of the West. Additionaly, as an international student, you will face the language problem in several key countries in the region i.e. Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, etc.

The Phillipines, Singapore and Hong Kong SAR and Australia are countries where one does not face the language problem but is confronted with the issue of dealing with immigration authorities.

If India it is, then one needs to evaluate the program on the cost front vis-a-vis premier institutes like the IIMs, etc.

I would still recommend that you touch base with AIM alumni in India to get a better feel of the placement scenario. AIM would gladly provide contact details of local alumni. AIM runs a liason office in Mumbai, the contact details of which could be had from the school.

Hope this answers your question.

Hello Vaibhav,

Congratulations on your AIM admission. I can volunteer some information.

Apparently your gross costs run to about 17-18 lakhs. Aid possibility:low
Placement: ON-campus: Tough ; need to network early. Indian students get placed through a job fair conducted by AIM in india. I know someone who got placed at Cummins. Think the pay pack was about 8 L. (2001-2)

Was wondering if i could get your details as well (as i am plannig to apply there):
Grad:stream/institute
Work ex: industry/company/time

Thank you.
