Hi ppl ...

I'm from an enginnering background with no solid grounding in finance ...

Is an MBA finance the right option for me ????

I've gone thru the curriculums of the courses of both Marketing & Finance and feel that Finance would be a better option for me.

Can anyone related to any of these fields plz guide me ...

Hi

if you like finance then go for it and in fact 90 % of fin analyst and fin ppl in mumbai are engg+MBA. and you need not to have rto be a CA or B.Com to take MBA fin.

I did my engg and had 4 years of work ex in manufacturing and i opted for fin

so go for mba fin

Hemant,

It's unfortunately a misconception in our country that if you have to specialize in Finance - you need to be from a Commerce background. Finance requires basic knowledge of Debit/Credit and fundamentals of Financial Statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow) which any good MBA program would anyway put you thru. Most Finance jobs are really analytical dealing with heavy-duty dissection of the financial statements.

I had the same doubt being a BSc in Stats & Operations Research, but by the time I did my Summer Internship, I was more than certain I could do Finance as well as anyone else from a BCom background. In fact most people from Quant backgrounds are actually preferred for analyical/ research type Finance jobs. Your dilemma is a very common one amongst first year B-school entrants from a non-BCom background, and everyone discovers what a misonception it is.

BCom students have been heard grumbling how they have to unlearn some of their Accounting concepts when they get to specializing in Finance :D

All said, you are certainly in good shape to become a CFO if you so desire!
