Also i would like to ask about the correspondence degrees given by IIMK through DWGE.COM is it comparable to the standard degrees from IIMs.

deepblue 08-18-2004, 06:45 PM Hi
In cat no ofquestions change everyu time and so doespattern. It being a negative marking exam, itis important to score correct answers rtaher than alarge no. if 180 questions are in total doing 140correct is good but again it change everyyear depending upon the difficulty level.
IIMK correspondance by DWGE has no value andit is good only forthose ppl who are working and looking forpart time MBA. hence it is little better than IGNOU
kunalgh 08-20-2004, 03:57 PM hi,
what i wanted to know is at an average how many correct answers will get u a IIM call .. in cflogic.com it is given some 56 correct answers will get u into IIMs . As for correspondence i wanted to know how good those degrees are for futhering u r career and since i am a working individual i wanted to know wether to go for those or full time MBA.

tulikas 08-20-2004, 04:22 PM WELL 56 IS A LOWNO AND IT WONT GET YOU A CALL. aND SINCE NO OF QUESTIONS ARE NOTFIXED SO IT VARIES. iF TOTAL NO OF QUESTIONS ARE 120, YOUNEEDTO DO CORRECT ATTEMPT FOR 70 questions at least. if there are 180 questions, your attemptrate should be higher on 120 so on so forth.
part time MBA does not give that kind of value as given by full time. BTW what is your overall profile?? can you post that
kunalgh 08-20-2004, 10:00 PM hi,
Yes i suppose to get all calls minimum 70 is a must ..

tulikas 08-21-2004, 02:14 AM that analysis was for last year and then CF logic is anywy so so coaching insti, try IMS or career launcher
but as i said ever year cut off depends upon the difficulty level that year
so you cant really put a no for cut off, just put your best
kunalgh 08-21-2004, 07:18 PM hi,
I suppose u r right .. the cut off matter only on the difficulty of the paper .. did u give last year's paper ..i heard it was difficult ..this will be my first CAT ..
hey can u tell me which of the IIMs prefer people with experience ..
Kunal
tulikas 08-21-2004, 08:29 PM well there are some feeling that some of IIMs prefers exp junta than the fresh one but all is rumpour only. Every IIM pursue diff agenda every year depending upon a lot of varible. Hence you shall not think about those options and look for some fine crack in the armour to sneak
just focus on CAT over all and do that with Full Force. once that is done, rest will of minor importance. hence just focus on CAT and since you are working try to be regular with atleast 2 hours of intensive study
kunalgh 08-21-2004, 09:18 PM hi,
Thx ... can u tell on what points we should stress on ...
for example in quant and DI ... what are the important points .. u see i have just started to study for CAT ..past 3 days ago i decided to write CAT .. thus i need the important topics only to study from ..
I have given GRE before so i think in english i would do just fine ...
CAn u give me the important topics in quant ..especially and also which of the coaching classes texts are good .. i have textsbooks of career forum and career launcher from which i am studying ..

know_all 08-22-2004, 04:12 PM hi
all your strategy depends on whether u r going for CAT 2004 or 2005
between if u r going for cat 2004 , it is little late and you will have to put good effort on same.
first give some test and identify your weak points and then start preparating. DI is easy and scoring while RC takes a lot of time to build and has to be cultivated.
further focus on study also depends whether you are an enginneer/B.com or arts student??
kunalgh 08-22-2004, 04:21 PM hi,
I am going for CAT 2004 .... as for my exam .. my weakness is quant ... i gave the CAT 2003 paper ( simulation ) .. got 23 in Eng , 17 in quant ( did'nt give DI ) .
I am a engg student , so what u think i should focus on .. which topics .. by the way ... which coaching institute is the best

well u need to brush up ur quant, just one month of intesive study will do good. get book by R.Sagrawal, ML Khanna etc and you also need to give DI
how are you faing in RC
I am a engg student , so what u think i should focus on .. which topics .. by the way ... which coaching institute is the best
for enggineers quant is not much tough, just you need to sharpen it. maintaina grip on RC
you can consider ims/cl or pt
NEO007 07-04-2006, 05:56 PM Hi,
I am a working professional with an exp. of 1.5 years in a good software company. I have done MCA full time and wanted to do some management course from a good institute . I dont want to drop my job . Pls guide for DWGE courses or any other course or institute. I don't want the course for change in my work area just for value addition in my profile and CV.
Pls advise.............
ashukla 07-16-2006, 07:58 PM Hi,
Each IIM assigns a different weightage to each segment, which includes not only the exams, but for experience upto 2 years, and for the interaction round.
So using the cut-off of getting an interview call is a risky benchmark to use. I recollect two different people, who virtually did the worst performance anyone could do in the interview GD round, and they got selected in the four top IIMs A, B C and L on the strength of thier scoring in the earlier peices. ( I actually went and commiserated with one guy, who was running a tempratue and was in a foul mood on top of that due to a family issue, so I speak of this from personal knowledge). There must have been other chaps who got called to the interview and did better in the interview, but did not get selected : aim at getting in and not at getting called
You can also botch up one portion of it and still get selected, as several of us did : so a "X mark is minimal in section A" is all hot air to my knowledge. Dont get fixated on raising score of a section above a cut-off level, work on you strengths as hard and get the best overall score. If you focus on the areas which are weak and frighten yourself with some imaginary cut off, you can demotivate yourself and that will just not be good.
Hope this is of some help
Cheers !
A Shukla
