Great IIM scam is something that needs to be seen with a deeper insight .
People have often compared IIM's with IIT's and said that IIM's are a class apart is that true.
Avg. salaries don't say so in fact best indian recruiters don't think so.
TAS the one Indian recruiter who sets highest standards for its candidates recruits from 8 b-schools and IIMI ,IIM K are not in the league.
Similarly best of recruiters have shown tendency to pick up best of other b-schools rather than very good of IIM A. Some People in IIM A get placed in ridiculuos places with salaries like 3-4lacs.
So being at MDI,IIFT,SP JAIN may sometimes better than being at IIM A,B,C

quite certainly IIMs are really beyond comparison with the other institutes.May be a few other institutes like say MDI or XIMB may figure out in the same leaque in one or two parameters. However there are also clear loopholes..say the networking in IIMA. As far as a common man understands, IIMA have a really strong alumni network and as my friends mention, top leaque MNCs really fight for getting interaction sessions there. The stature of events at IIMs also speak these out.
When we are bringing out all the b schools together ..it would be better if we considers IIMs and say XLRI as separate and rank others.
I saw in a post somebody mentioning of Cargill foods and boasting that they come only to IIFT. May be they really dont understand the placements at the big 3 IIMs

i am in my 3rd yr of economics.
i had initially planned on giving CAT this year for practice and then next year: this was because
- i wanted work experience
- i thought i would not be able to get through at the first attempt.
as a consequence i concentrated on my 3rd year and did not put in more than an hour a day for this... now my last mock cat shows a percentile of 98, which i totally did not expect!!
i was wondering:
- should i stick to my original plan and gun for the iims next year? because i'll study then and so do better..
- go to the other bschools like MDI if i do get through?
- does the work exp make a difference or will i be better off not dropping a year, settling for MDI or something, than facing an IIM interview with a year drop??
thank you for your help
nandeeta.
