Hi

American culture is more direct and agressive compared to Indian culture. and there are basic cultural differences. In america, agressiveness and youth are prefered while in india subtleness and age are given higher priority compared to other attributes hence the negotiations skills move as per the basic culture traits.

However because of larger US culture influence, indian middle management is also aping american style of management and getting more aggressive.

I realize this is an old thread, but it is so relevant because the world is getting smaller each day. However, I'm far better at sharing academic sources and links.

In my opinion...

Cultural differences are at the heart of the matter, really. I would suggest doing an online search for "cultural differences" business India America protocol.... etc. Eventually, you'll hit the right combo of search terms.

Negotiation skills is an art.. Point here is? you want indian manager to cut the price down from vendor? well India is not in a position to do that.. so most of the people are discussion about increasing prices from the customers;

How do you do that? As far as i see.. if i have 10 million in my bank account and i am working for top 10 companies in world and if i have world class house in California.. if i go for a negotiation of a project.. Customers generally say "You have blue blood in you, you dont negotiate" but thats not actually true..

customers are convinced that the hype, satisfaction and person who is handling the project are above my(their) expectations so i better dont negotiate, If i negotiate i will loose world class service.

Am i right?
