I am looking to discuss directly with a mentor certain concerns. Most institutes look for work experience or at least some kind of experience in team work etc. I have been out of college for about 3-4 years now and did not get any work experience. Would that work against me?

I really urge a mentor to discuss this so that I can clarify some doubts.
