Hey Abhinav,
Every B School has a fairly well established PhD program in some area or another and you should be able to find information on the websites of most global B-Schools. You need to indentify what area you want to focus on and write to the School's PhD offices. I would doubt very much whether the MBA program offices would be of any help but you could always write in and ask them for contacts in the PhD program office.
You could also approach the faculty at your own B School to get an idea about any specific PhD programs you should look for. Bear in mind that the US has a strong research focus and you should not restrict yourself to B Schools alone in doing your search.
Work experience is not necessarily a pre-requisite for a PhD but you may need to speak to representatives of the specific program to get a better idea.
Hope this answers your query.

hey atul
even i am keen on the Phd programe but as suggested by you that we need to consult the profs out there. but how do u approach the profs there. it becomes diffcult when you talk about getting in touch with them via mails or without any reference as they might be getting nearly 1000 such mails everyday.
secondly my concern is regarding the field i want to do my PHD in..is it necessary to be the same field in which i have done my MBA or it can be different?
also when is it the best time to apply for the same.
Atul i would be very grateful to you if u can reply to me as soon as possible.

Hey,
You need to speak to a school's PhD program office and not necessarily the faculty directly. Yes, they must get several mails a day but so do MBA program offices. I would imagine PhD mails are relatively fewer in number. Besides, every school has certain areas that it specialises in, for its PhD program. Doing some web research across school websites will help you identify which schools you need to focus on.
Frankly, a masters degree is not a pre-requisite for a PhD program at most schools, so what you did during your MBA need not necessarily matter but could help in showing your interest in a particular area.
Check the school website for deadlines. My own school-London Business School accepts applications until 15 January for the year's intake.
Write in if you need any more clarifications.
Regards,
Atul
