basically there are 2 jobs...one in creative side n the other in client servicing....4m wut i feel and 4m wut i hav seen....to join in creative...there is only 1 requirement ...u have 2 b creative...and xtremely passionate in wut u do....in creative u can be the copywriter...or the visualizer etc...educational qualification r not a criteria 4 goin in...

in client servicing the ad agencies generally look 4 graduates...n in some cases 4 mbas......in it ppl generally have 2 interact with the client on both sides of the board....

I did my graduation in Advertising Sales Promotion & Sales Management simultaneously i was also doing a part time job as sales organizer cum event manager at a pvt. Ltd. Company in Patna.

Right now i am also pursuing my MS. degree in Marketing (specialization in Advertising & PR) from ICFAI Hyderabad.

hi sweta,
i think with ur acads background and ur dream to join the ad industry....u can definitely enter d agencies in the form of client servicer, brand manager, pr exec.....or u can also join any pr agency too...

with ur acads background which is related to the ad industry...u have an added advantage.....blive me life is fun n crazy in d ad world....though the initial pay may be low...but future growth potential is huge...if u have the talent....

as u r doin a course..if its residential xpect ad agencies 2 come 2 campus n do d placement procedures in d campus...otherwise keep a tab on www.agencyfaqs.com , brand equity, brand reporter...etc...may even check www.adage.com 4 global news....2 - 3 months b4 ur course ends....start applying 2 vacancies in d agencies...n b sure 2 crack d selection procedure which is mostly g.d followed by p.i....

4 any more queries u can shoot it here

chao..

hi
Mr. saikat bose

thnx for ur valueable reply. I think this will really help me in future but still i have many queries about this field. they r as follows.

* What is the role of a PR Manager
* What is the background being required for it, thus this course will
alone will be sufficient for the post
* You talked about GD, what does it means i.e what type of topics it
may hold
* What kind of software programmes are required in advertising & PR
* What type of creative inputs are required
* When is the time when these advertising agency comes with
vaccancies
* Does it is also required to have any fine art degree to excel in the
field of creativity
* What is the initial avrage salary does these agencies offer.

the length of the question are very long but still if u give ur valuable input it will add value to my carrier.

thnx for ur valuable concern

hoping for a quick reply

hi sweta,
let me take it question by question,
1) PR manager's main role in an organisation is to build and maintain an organizations image in the outside world...this they do by regularly interacting with clients....u see all the big brands and in present day b-schools are managed with pr agencies support...they decide where 2 put the advertisements where 2 implant news items...n where n wut type of events 2 organize....this is basiaclly the external relationship building arm of the organization

2) yes this course is sufficient...basically u have 2 ppl savvy...n street smart

3) GD can have a vast array of topics...consult any competetive magz 4 more details...

4) in the creative side there are many n many s/w...like photoshop...corel draw...flash...etc....but in client servicing...n pr...i think MS Office package is more than enough

5) creativity has no limits....i have seen ppl joinin in client servicing and brand building n then movin on to creative....4 creativity sky is not the limit...but in PR position creative inputs required may not be much..but if u can give creative inputs...nothin is better...it increases ur value 4 d org...inputs may b like givin a new direction 2 a creative thought process...basiclly think out of the box...n b street smart

6) vacancies exist all over the year...u have 2 keep a tab on them

7) no degree in fine arts is not a requirement...but if u have it may help u in creative side but no additional benifits in client servicing or PR

8) starting salary is a tricky question....well it may range between 8k and 15k...depending on ur competencies...n in creative it may start as low as 5-6k

well i hope i am able to help u out...n 4 any more querries keep shooting...i can talk n write on this topics 4 eons...it's my life...my dream n my soul....n i love writing about it....

chao

ps: dont address me as mr saikat bose...yaar u r goin 2 join a world where even ur boss is calles by his/her pet name...so plz call me saikat or curtz...

sweta,
its the quality of work that matters...any day any time...many a time small co.s give a far better project than big ones...and they give far better exposure...while taking u 4 finals.any co. will look at your project and how it was benificial for the co. in which u did d summers....nothing else...if they find it good u r thru atleast on the part of the projects...then co. name does not count...

ciao

hi curtz,,
i read your detailed advise regarding the opportunity in an advertising agency vis a vis client servicing role. can you please tell someting about the creative role.
Can a person enter into a ad agency in the creative department even if he/she doesnot have any formal training in arts or design, but he can show his creative talent otherwise by suitable demonstration..
Please advice.

yes you can. biggest example is Prasoon Joshi. He did an MBA from IMT but rose to the rank of creative director.
