HI,

I need an advise regarding management education abroad .
Here is my profile in brief:

a) B Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering from not-so-known affliated college under JNT Unversity,Hyderabad
b ) I should say my academics in Engineering are no where (aggregate of 58%)
c ) 15 months of work experience in ITES sector at the entry level

And I wish to pursue a Management program in India or abroad, preferably abroad,

I am preparing hard for the GMAT and TOEFL, but before actaully sitting for the tests , I wish for a advice if I am doing it fine, ie ,I need suggestions regarding the following queries

1 ) Suppose that I get a very good score in GMAT and TOEFL, will I be able to make up for the lack of excellent academic credentials?

2) I have people in the US who can take care of me for sometime until I get a good accomodation, part time work etc, will that be of any help to me in securing an admission anywhere is the US ?

3 ) My only aim is to get into the US or abroad for some personal reasons ,and an admission even in any average business also will help me, so is it achievable for a person of my profile ?

4 ) I prefer working in India only, so will an Australian MBA help?

5) If none of the above help me, on what other ways can I get an MBA abroad ?

Kindly help me out, I am in a fix

Thank you for your time and consideration.
Regards,
D Srinivas.

Hey,

I would strongly recommend that you look at the student profiles of some of the schools you may have in mind. Simply put, if an MBA is all you need, then you can even go to an Indian school which is affiliated to an overseas university/B school and get the relevant degree. Additionally, if MBA is what you want, there are schools where you will be highly sought after even with a score of 550, while there will be schools where even with a score of 800, you may not make it.

As I keep saying, the GMAT and TOEFL are only a part of the application process and many things matter. You can make up for your poor record in one by way of an exemplar record in another when it comes to good B Schools. What they are interested in is an all-rounder personality who has demonstrated initiative and has clear objectives. So, rest assured your poor showing during your earlier education is not the end of your quest for an MBA.

The only thing the visa authorities recognise is your ability to fund the education and how convinced they are about your intentions to return to the country. If your 'people' can demonstrate that they are willing to sponsor your education and have the resources to sponsor you, it will help. Yes, by offering you accomodation, they help you reduce your expenses but this is rarely convincing for either the School or the US Visa officer. Moreover, are your 'people' in the same city as the school you intend to go to?

If your only aim is to go the US to get an MBA, then you are a prized treasure for many schools. Simply pick up the phone and talk to the several GMAT/overseas admission consultants who exist in most major cities in India and you will get an idea.

Again, I find it hard to answer your questions simply because you are absolutely unclear about your motives. If on the one hand you state that your only intention is to go to the US just to get any MBA and the school doesnt matter, then by that logic even an Australian school should be good enough!

I hope this response will help you crystallise your thoughts a bit more in addressing the MBA question.
