Hi all,

I am currently planning to give my Gmat exams since I want to do a MBA in HR . My interpersonal skills are very strong ,but my apitude scores have not been very great( from past experience's ) .
I would like to know what are my chances of securing a good job in one of the MNC's or for that matter even small firms but with good job profiles in India, after doing a MBA from USA from any of the middle line schools.I have a year's work experience working as Hr assistant in a consultacy firm and about 6mths experience working in a multinational bank as a finance assistant.both my work ex were in India.

appreciate your help.

Hey,

I would suggest that you give your self a little more work experience before jumping into an MBA. Your experience will be richer if you spend some more time working in HR in India than if you were to go for your MBA straight away.

Your GMAT score/aptitude test score should have little relevance to your getting a job with any firm in India unless the firm specifically uses an aptitude test as part of its selection process.

Finally, considering that you are in the HR field especially in a consulting firm I would encourage you to use your network to explore post-MBA career opportunities for yourself. Co-incidentally, I happen to attend a lecture organized jointly by the CII and London Business School today for a delegation comprising of HR heads/professionals from leading Indian organizations. To the best of my understanding there were few who had gained MBAs overseas. But this is not to say that such a thing is not possible.

Hey,

Unfortunately since I am not from the field I am not sure. I do not however expect most firms in India to pay a premium for an overseas HR degree considering the low importance given to the HR function as yet.

You may however like to consider some of the HR related consultancies in India like Hewitt Associates who may be willing to pay a premium for your expertise in a specific area.
