Hi

You can take Fin but skip tough electives like Investments, portfolio theory etc. Basic knowledge of fin will help you getting a mktg job with fin companies i.e mutual fund, brokerage houses & banks.

Hi all,

I am Balasubramanian...call me Bala.

Working in auto industry for almost 3 yrs. Started with Hindustan Motors as a design engineer...2 yrs and now at Ford India as a product engineer...its almost 1 yr.

Keen to switch into aircraft industry...into some techno+commercial field...like sourcing for example (very big dream though!!)...besides taking a good break from work...so, planning to take my CAT '06...

still wondering if doing mba would be a right choice

thanks,
Bala

05-14-2006, 11:20 PM
hi bala,

well mba doesnt fit in ur dream but you can do mba to probaly one day start your own design co.
i mean if u do mba then make sure u join a co of ur related field.

guneet ahuja

Lord_of_the_Ring

Lonewulf

I do not agree with Guneet that MBA does not fit you. Even MBBS are going for MBA so y not a design engineer. Most imp thing is what do you want to do in long term and if CAT is step in that direction , go for it, follow what ur heart says

whatdo u say guneet on this

and best of luck lonewulf or bala

lonewulf

hi bala,

well mba doesnt fit in ur dream but you can do mba to probaly one day start your own design co.
i mean if u do mba then make sure u join a co of ur related field.

guneet ahuja

oops...how did u get to read what is in my mind so quickly??

i can see lots of hidden opportunities in the aircraft industry and thats where i want to be in the next 5 years...auto industry is matured and too much competitive to survive...on the contrary aircraft industry is much more sophisticated than auto but not many players...u can create room as much as you will want....main reason being that it is much more capital intensive than the auto...

did you realise that when the first automobile engine was getting developed, the first flight of Wright Bors took place...and look at the pace at which technology in aircrafts have grown compared to autos?? why???

of course you will have to know to play the game...and thats where the mba + work exp. in the aircraft industry will help me in the long run...besides getting me some good contacts ;)...and lemme see where it goes!

ciao.

Hi Kapriati,

ur a b.com graduate so are u now in US or u live in India and want to go to US to study.

let us take the more likely case u live in India and u want to study in US
u can study MS in finance or economics or IB[international business],depending on ur interest, u can also study something in creative fields like photography, animation, direction, or in communication. thus there are unlimited options for u. first decide what u want to be in life then decide the course u would like to study and also there is no need give gmat for most of these courses.

I have a brand new IMS Preparaton Material along with mock test papers given by IMS for CAT 06-07. This was bought by me few days back, however, due to a personal problem at my end, I had to drop my plans for giving CAT 2006. The original cost for the pack ( Part A, B, C) is Rs 5900/-

But I'll be giving it for Rs 3500 only...

If interested, please mail back..

Yes, I am doing a quick and thorough self analysis to know if MBA is the program I want or I should make a complete switch over to a field that interests me.
I do not want to do an MBA just for the sake of a higher qualification. I am suited for an analytical job, so is an investment in MBA the best option!

Hi Arvind,

I have worked for 5years in the BPO industry now! I intended to add better skills and specialisation inorder to get into business management.

An MBA would ofcourse be the best course to follow. I was thinking of MS in a specific field like finance would be a better option instead. Since I am a science graduate, that leaves me a huge disadvantage.

arvind.tyagi
07-07-2006, 03:24 PM
Well if you are interested in nos, y dont you go for something like MFC ( master in finance & control) or CFA from AIMR or MS from US in Quantitative apllications in finance

at this point it will be better to prepare using correspondance materail as in coaching class ppl would have already some pace and will create pressure. It is still good time to start for CAT if you can put 3-4 hours everyday.

Do they take MAT ??

bilz
07-15-2006, 02:17 PM
hello everybody. This is Bilal here and probably am going to b one of the senior most member of this site. i happen to come to this site by sheer chance as i was searchng some info.

i realised that there r very strong anti icfai -hyd mails on this site and being an alumni of icfai - hyd thought would chip in with my comments.

I belong to 1996-98 batch of IBS -HYD and more than 8 years in the industry, i have no regrests for joining IBS- Hyd. In fact i had calls that year from Symbiosis and Narsee Monjee but still opted for Hyd, as i was keen to do CFA - PGDBA prog of the college.

My two years in the college was really good and am happy that i went there. The academics was brilliant and trust me with so many years in the industry i can vouch that the study material pertaining to finance was excellent.

Yes there were lot of teething problem, which u will expect in any school which is less than one year old.

Yes, one thing which pains me of ICFAI is the no of colleges and the huge intake, which will certainly dilute the brad image and may also compromise on quality. I hope the management of ICFAI realises this , soon.

To end with i would like to add that today whatever i am , i couldnt have been without ICFAI - Hyderabad. Eight years down the line after working for some of the leading Banks in India, today i am working for a leading Bank in Middle East and with Gods grace doing well.

Yeh, I would also like to add that most of my classmates as well as senior batch and junior batch are doing exceedingly well.

10 YEARS DOWN THE LINE NO REGRETS FOR JOINING IBS_HYDERABAD

Cheers and Keep posting objective views and all the best to all of You.

Hi All,

At first it was a shock. (when we landed at IIM in Jan 2005)

However, slowly & steadily we recovered, recouped and the IIM faculty
were in for asurprise.

The 18 month PGP was condensed into a Six month Program and
given to us in a real Fast-forward mode.

Back to school nay college feeling was overwhelming.

The projects, the quizzes, end-of-Sem Tests kept us on our toes all the
time. We didn't relaize how quickly the days and months had gone-by.

Finally, we were graduating on the D-day (in June 2005) and we all knew
& felt how much we are going to miss the stay there.

Warm Wishes,

Kurra Sarat

Hi,
The kind of exposure and value-addition you would derive from a residential full-time programme cannot be matched by online learning or a part-time programme.
My suggestion is that you focus on securing admission into a full time course in a reputed B-School

Cheers!
