dear atul,
hi
I am a government servant, Assistant Commandant , Central Industrial Security Service and working with the government of India for the last eight years. I am a masters in history and also a law graduate from Delhi University and am presently working as law officer for my department. Last year I had taken my gmat and my score was 580. Accordingly I applied to few b-schools in in US and got confirmation from Baruch College, New York for a full time MBA. I intend to switch over my career to corporate sector. I am 35 years of age. I wanted to know few things:
1.how is the rating of this school in terms of job placement
2. what should I opt as intended major.
3. How can my eight years of govt service and law background be used in future placements
4.Can I go for finance or HR would be a better option for me
I would be grateful if my queries are answered.
Regards,
irfan

Irfan,

Although I am not in the best position to give you a run-down on job placements, it is important to make sure you get a good idea about placements of foreign students when you look at the placement record for a second tier school like Baruch. But even more importantly, I don't know your specific reasons for chosing the US to pursue the MBA option. If a career change is all you are seeking, you may be better placed by enrolling at a program at one of the leading Indian schools-XLRI, IIMA, NMIMS, S.P. Jain, etc.

Given your background in IR, it may be a worthwhile option pursuing HR but I would not be too fussed about it, if your preference lies elsewhere. This is a good opportunity to change careers and make the best use of it.

Regards,

Atul
