View Full Version : Dell Inspiron 6400
kaiser 03-20-2006, 05:21 PM HI
This is my first post to this new section ( it looks like that )
I wish to know if anybody has some experience in dealing with Dell in India. I am planning to buy a laptop and Dell inspiron 6400 looks quite interesting but want to know how is the experience of ppl here with Dell & its laptop in India
shwetang 03-21-2006, 01:14 PM Hi
I think you are asking two questions. First is Dell Inspiron 6400 which has been launched in India recently and second buying from Dell in India including service & delivery as it is the only online store with no physical presence - a global Dell delivery model.
Now coming to machine itself, Dell Inspiron 6400 which is powered by Intel Dual core chip T2300 is one of the first dual core powered laptop in India ( apart from Apple) and has no match when it comes to power at a reasonable price. A dell 6400 double core T 2300 Intel powered machine with a 1 GB 633 MHz DD2 Ram, 80 GB hard disk along with 15.4" screen will set you by 59k approx which is quite decent when one compare with Lenovo, Compaq and Sony and that too a dual core chip.
So my 10/10 for a value buyer who is looking for performance but then there is another aspect that is buying from Dell in India and here you discover that great Dellocity is totally absent from scene and there stands a great call center between you & your object 'd desire
So here are some myths & facts related to Dell in India
#1 Dell offers online configuration which help you to customize your laptop as per your need and indeed a great feature but be ready to be surprised. After configuration you are told that Dell customer care will call you and as usual that dell call never comes and if you do the mistake of putting that query on net again, forget it. You need to chase and call Dell number which on Toll free gives you a messages " this number dont exist" so be ready to try STD
# 2 Well after a few chase if you are able to place your order and be happy about ease of online buying, be ready for the paper work as you will gladly discover that devil is in detail. You will be required to sign some documents , some form etc along with the disclosure that you are not going to sell it.
# 3 Online tracking : Here you will get a your order no to track your system dispatch online. Be ready to again get a third shock. The online tracking is as good as online configuration. It will tell your system has been dispatched and further no information is available. And in case you wish to subscribe to online alerts, forget it. This part don’t recognize your PO / customer no etc. probably it is yet to integrate with the order system.
#4. Delivery : It happens after 20-25 days of your order placing and again Dell has a master stroke. Your 60k expensive machine comes by some local courier. No FexEx, BlueDart or DHL, and so you might have the no but you wont have a clue about the courier and handling of machine.
So if you are lucky you will get it within 20 days, otherwise think Dell is the machine worth waiting for or probably good for admiring but not for buying .....
Anonymous 03-21-2006, 10:12 PM Hi
Quite a elaborate reply. Seems shwetang has real bad time with Dell
what say shwetang, u sound quite pissed off!!!
Anonymous 03-23-2006, 12:04 AM I agree with Shwetang about the delivery & service quality issue by MNCs, while product is damn good, just dont expect anything on service part as majority of them has outsourced it and that has led to only suffering
shwetang 03-24-2006, 03:06 PM Well I forgot to add one more thing. That is service. Once you get Dell laptop, it takes one week to 15 days before Dell Service guy will call you. I called Dell Banglore office some 5-6 times and everytime they told me that within next 30 min somebody will call, but that call never came. So with Dell forget about service.

Lord_of_the_Ring 04-24-2008, 09:39 AM Hi
You either call Dell or reinstall some of the software which you have recently installed.
Varun Jindal 04-24-2008, 07:30 PM You can restore the configuration to some previous state. If the problem persists, call Dell service helpline. If everything fails, you may have to format your operating system which might have become corrupt due to getting infected with some virus.
aabhagagan 05-11-2009, 04:59 PM Can you tell me whats the starting price for mac. How much i need to invest to get a good laptop?
abhiroop 05-12-2009, 03:19 PM Anything from 35 k onwards would be a good one. Well the more you spend the better it gets. Mac is costly but amazingly fast and reliable. The staring price is 53 k... Prices have actually come down for macs. i supposed they have some good offers exclusively for university students in india. Google it and see for yourself.

quebec 05-28-2011, 06:39 PM As time goes by, laptops are getting cheaper. You can buy them later at 2012
jameswood037 10-15-2011, 10:37 AM My friends have using Dell Lap. I think its a nice laptop for college students. Since 2 years my best friend Tom has been using this, he dint find any problem yet. I think you can go for Dell Model.
soniat 10-29-2011, 12:17 PM yes it's good choice...........
richardshelton 09-22-2012, 02:49 PM I bought a Dell inspirion 6400 only 3 years ago and have had to replace the LCD screen just after the warrantee was off. And now, only 1 year later, It needs replacing again. The service was terrible. They have operaters that don't speak proper english, so when you are already frustrated, that makes it even worse. Also, to be told to just get another computer, because it would be cheaper, and they try to sell you another one, I found extremely self-serving. Not what I wanted to hear at that point when I only had the computer for less than 3 years. Very dissappointed in Dell. I bought elsewhere!
