Hi

Distance learning program in India are yet to get a significant visibility in India and add little value if you are not a govt / psu employee as for them, they get one additional increment. But for ppl who r in pvt sector, apart from some knowledge gain, distance learning MBA program give little benefit as ithas no placement program or low peer interaction and hence poor networking opportunity.

However if you wishto know about top distance learning programs, you can try following

Direcway Program fo IIMs
IGNOU MBA
U21 MBA

Also check out this link for latest notifications on Distance Learning MBAs

Hi

Which city are you based at ??/

Y do you want to doMBA just now. Y dont u wait and try better institute compared to ICFAI ???

ICFAI will admit you but i dont think wil help you in long run as even their full time MBA program is still an average program.

Hai all

am new to this forum.actually i registered here cuz am in such an uncertain condition about my career.i hope u guyz can help me out...atleast to an xtend

am presently working with a broking firm, since 3 months.i had plans to take CFA initially.but later thought that it would be a bit harder for me.i had tried CAT last year and got only 50 percentile.( but without putting much effort)

so i thought of doing distance mba from symbiosis(atleast a brand name will be there in my resume)
but after a big ssearch about the worthines of distance mba,i came to know that its sheer waste as am in the start of my career.only someone with a 5-8 years experience waiting for a promotion need only do a distance mba.

so am in utter dilemma--whether to go for cfa or distance mba from symbiosis or prepare for the next cat.
i know noone can answer to this quer well.but some bit of info from someone is gonna help me like anything.

Hi,
In MBA the learning that a person gets it broadly from:

1) Book / study material
2) Peer group learning

In a distnace learning programme what someone misses out is point no 2 i.e. Peer group learning.

Going by my experience, this is one big "value add" during Full time MBA. Its not only adds on to the knowledge that you get from books but it enhances it many times!!

For what ever reason if a person knows that he/she cant go for the full time then what is to be kept in mind is the point I made above.

Hello guyz,

There is one point which is to be noted wrt the distance program of IIM-B as compared to the other IIMs:

1) I think IIM-B admits candidates without any kind of competitive eveluation (written tests etc.) - They just seem to confirm your work exp. and other credentials before letting you into the program. Whereas, IIM-K takes you through a CAT like written exam.

2) And after about 26 weeks you are awarded the certificate - once again - no evaluatory exams at the end !!

3) Yes, it's a participatory certificate !!

I guess these will grossly reduce the market value of this program. Ofcourse many ppl still enter the program (mostly sponsored candidates) for the IIM-B "brand value".

Personally I think this program could be considered as an extended workshop or refresher on management.

I feel the programs of other IIMs could offer better value - ofcourse with 'all limitations' of a distance program.

P.S.: From the current year, IIM-B program is offered at Reliance Web Worlds... The DirecWay tie-up is over.

Hi,

I am s/w eng in .net with 2 years of exp at B'lore and engg graduate in electronics comm. U r postings and suggestions clarified lots of doubts. Thnx for that.

I am still in need of u r suggestions. My position is
a) I don't want to leave current job.
b) I would like to get a Master degree than diploma.
c) I am in much eager to start my studies this year itself.

My quiries are
1)
a) B/c of this thread discussion I come to know that there is no value for distance or correspond' edu. Then what abt evening or part time?
b) First of all what is the difference b/n part time and evening colleges? Which one is better? Or both are same?
c) Recently I saw an ad of Sikkim Manipal Uni admissions. Is it better to join or better to join any evening or part time? If it is evening, In Bangalore which colleges are better option.
d) Gautham69 can u give me more details about the IIM-B programs. As u said I am unable to find course details.

2)
a) As I am much interested in IT please suggest me which colleges in B’lore offer MBA in IT.
b) What are the other better alternatives if I should get master degree in computers?

balpreet

I have some clarifications from the points you have made:

b) I would like to get a Master degree than diploma.

##Can you clarify & elaborate more on the above point of yours!!

a) B/c of this thread discussion I come to know that there is no value for distance or correspond' edu. Then what abt evening or part time?

##I would put in this way: The "value add" that you get out of correspondence edu is limited to knowledge from books and hence has its own limitations. So its not at par with a full time course.

b) First of all what is the difference b/n part time and evening colleges? Which one is better? Or both are same?
## Why dont you tell first how you define both of them?

A part of the Return on Investment any course offers is the "placements" ( not only the monetary part but the job profile aspect also)
Hence we can take a general infrence that if any course ( correspondence / evening/ watever) isnt providing placements then one should be clear in mind that what you would be geting is a "limited value add" and this is not at par with a full time course!!

Hi Balpreet,
Thank you for your valuable suggestion. And the meaning of the diploma is diploma in mgmnt. So as per your suggestion correspondence/ parttime/evening all are same. no certification value.

Till now I was not thinking about CAT etc. But now I have to brush up my mind and start preparing for them.

Thank you.

Hi Vikramsagar,

About Diploma in Management you would know that courses at all IIMs and many other good b schools are Post Graduate Diploma courses and they are not "MBA" as they dont come under a university.

So you may decide you want PGDM from IIM Ahmedabad or MBA from Allahabad University!!

Also I think you have got it wrong about corespondence/ evening courses.
Again I would quote myself: " The "value add" that you get out of correspondence edu is limited to knowledge from books and hence has its own limitations. So its not at par with a full time course"

I didnt they are of "no value" . Comparing them is like comparing apples with oranges!!

Hi Balpreet,
How you doing.
I am greatly thankful to you for your valuable suggestions. I am in need of your valuable suggestion once again.
Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM), Bangalore campus providing Excutive PGDBM(Week End classes). After 16 months of course they are giving placement assurance and also PGDBM cerficate of BIM.
1)Does this certificate is useful, if I wolud like to go for Ph.D (or) any further studies. I mean if futher studies requires Master degree, does this one is useful.
2)How can we compare Diploma in Masters and Masters Degree.
Once again thank you very much.

Thanks

Find out abt the kinf of "Placement help" they provide. Nowdays every insti promises 100% placements but the quality of placement should match your aspiration. Know the info and take an informed decision.

1)Does this certificate is useful, if I wolud like to go for Ph.D (or) any further studies. I mean if futher studies requires Master degree, does this one is useful.
### Ask the institiute authorities. Because for PhD you need to have a Master's Degree and as yousaid this is Post Graduate Diploma. Better get it clarified from them

2)How can we compare Diploma in Masters and Masters Degree.
Once again thank you very much.

Hi All,
Last week I went to Alliance Business School-Bangalore for enquiry about EPGDGM(Executive Post graduate Diploma in global Management)program.IT is a nice program with specialisation in Marketing/HR/Finance/Operation,etc...The delivery mechanism is comparetely good other than distance learning(Video lectures/Video conferencing/Industry interface,e-library,100% Placement assistance,etc...).Certificate also endorsed by 6 foreign university professors and they also providing E-MBA from Alliance Business School after become an Deemed university. But this is the first batch they started.I dont know much more about valuable as compare to ICFAI.

Hi Dudexxx

It looks like you have gone for a long path. as of today to be faculty you need not NET as per latest UGC guidelines but PhD is important though lot many b-schools waive that as well in view of lack of faculty for business management. However you need to clarify from your UNiv this particular fact : Whether this particular course is AICTE & UGC approved or not. Remember AICTE & UGC give approval for each and every course seperately so you need to know about your course. Second if you have not spend too much money and keen to do PhD go to integerated PhD offered by Aligarh Univ which being a central univ has good value and offers you a PhD just after your UG degree.

Hi,

Pondicherry University along with Christ College in Bangalore offer MBA Degree.. You would also get a study certificate from Christ college. that MBA degree is offered from Pondicherry University which is a central University. But it is compulsory that you attend classes in the evening everyday. Classes are between 630pm to 840pm mon to thu.

Hi,

i recently enquired about Executive MBA degree offered from Manipal University(formerly MAHE). course fee is 1,30,000 and its a two year course with weekend classes. I was formerly a part of Christ college evening class mba course but discontinued it because i could not attend classes everyday and they were very strict about attendance. I'm looking forward to pursue MBA(not any PG diploma course). i have also heard about correspondence MBA offered from pondicherry university. the fees for two years comes to 16k. classes would be held for few days at the end of each semester. can anyone tell me which is the best of whats available?

Vikram,
Try PGSEM course conducted by IIMB which specialises in Software Enterprise or General Mgmt courses by IIMC (EPBM) or XLRI(PGCBM).
The latter two are satellite based education and the former being a contact program. Currently IIMC admissions are open via Direcway.

Hi All,
Lets look at it this way...Lets first understand why one does an MBA first.. there are two reasons.. 1) knowledge 2) employment. Lets take each of them..
1) Knowledge: Management is a science. Can u learn science thru correspondence? Can you learn MBBS or Rocket science thru correspondence? well, you know the answer..

2) Employment: Simple ques.. if you were a HR manager would you give importance to a guys MBA degree/diploma earned thru correspondence. :rolleyes:Am sure you know the answer for this as well....

Now if you want to earn an MBA jus for the sake of it.. pls go ahead and it doesnt matter whether its frm ICFAI or SYMBI or some timbaktu university.. but if you want to get ahead in life with some real motto.. then think again...

Currently am pursuing my online MBA (PGCBM) frm XLRI and believe me these are knowledge transfers from the top class faculties. Hence, look before you leap since its your career at the end of the day!!

Ping me for any further help!!

Hi,

I am working in asn S/w Company in bangalore.I Have B.Tech degree in electronics and communications. Now there is a twist i realised..
I am no more interested in s/w job,but the market situations and my family responsibilities are the sole reasons behind me not leaving this job.Hence with out leaving a job i want to persue MBA.So the executive mBA is the only option i have, as i dont really consider distance mode as the one that can change my field of job. I am always very much inclined towards that kind of workk where i get to interprete people.I love to do research on what ppl think,do and achieve etc..This kind of work comes under sociology and psychology.
I wish to do master's in sociology now by weekend programmes in bangalore.
Recently i visited BMA( bang manage Acade) but it seems its their first batch and the no of enrollments were nil until i approached them.
Can anyone please suggest me any more such good universities/academies/instituitions???It should be also worht doing it.
One more thing..i anyhow gave athought of doing it, so that if possible i can switch my field from IT sector to this..
IF anyone have any ideas/facts about the career prospectus of this fiels, plz plzpzlpzlzpz drop it here. I would be very thankful to you..
thanks in advance

Hi Mahesh

Its quite interesting scenario you are in and majority f us realises in middle of our career that we do like something else than what we are doing presently and it takes lot of effort and patience to follow your dream.

I think right now just focus on building your skills in this area and then probably you can take a shift in your own company.

I think to start with you can look at BMA program though probably going for MA in psychology wont be bad option and you can expore about it with bangalore Univ. However best places to do it will be TISS or XLRI. Explore their website and see if there is any part time program related to this area.

Hi Rajatv,

thanks for quick response, I felt relieved at your kind suggestions.
By BMA program though probably going for MA in psychology you meant BMA program for MA in sociology right?
Anyways this course seems to be very infamous in south India unlike north india ( for example New Delhi).
I checked both the institutes u mentioned and i found that this course has no place in it( as for what i checked keeping full hopes) and this institutes have main centres in mumbai not bangalore.
If you find any other institutes , just let me know rajatv.
I would be very thankful to you.

I am a Software Engineer wid 3 years of work exp. I did MCA and now looking forward for a good part time MBA/ distance learning one. I came to know that FMS is a very good option. But as I am in Bangalore. So cant join FMS..even if I cleared the exam..which itself is very tough [:P].

Well can you please suggest me the best and economical institute as the exceutive programs from IIMs need min 5 yrs exp and are very expensive as well :( . Can you please suggest me any other very good option even though it may have an entrance test. And how is MBA from Sikim Manipal University.

Waiting eagerly for your reply.

Regards,
Mona

Distance learning MBA degree has its own value in the job market. This serves best for those who want an add-on to their current education status along without giving a break to their professional life. But any degree holds a value only if it is from a well reputed institute. There are well recognized universities which offer distance MBA programs valued in the market. Apart from ICFAI, you may also check one more UPES which is well known for its distance learning, part time and executive MBA programs (especially in core and energy sector). Their website is: upes.ac.in
