Gadget is a small mechanical device useful for a particular job. Hey all MBAs Can anybody tell me diff betwen gadgets & gizmos ??? Linda 07-24-2006, 10:42 PM One more difference between a gadget and a gizmo is that gizmos have moving parts whereas gadgets need not have them.Like a digital watch is a gadget but a analog watch would be a gizmo.Hey all MBAs Can anybody tell me diff betwen gadgets & gizmos ??? VL1511 02-20-2007, 11:26 AM "Gizmo" is used when one wishes to talk about something interesting/weird and has nothing better to say. Some also say "widget". Gadget, on the other hand, is a proper word meaning a small device. Check out this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gizmo swati.gupta 02-24-2007, 04:14 PM Hey I dont agree. what is written earlier is right. Unfortunately this wikipedia entry is not correct. VL1511 02-24-2007, 05:18 PM Hey I dont agree. what is written earlier is right. Unfortunately this wikipedia entry is not correct. What don't you agree? Gizmo is used when the speaker doesn't know what to see and implies something weird, funny etc. There is nothing wrong with the Wikipedia entry. Also, there is no requirement of moving parts, etc. as suggested, for Gizmo. nestorini 05-11-2010, 10:36 PM 'Gizmo' is certainly not an American invention, but a term invented by a French theorist Jean Baudrillard. 'The gizmo is an object that is not of any real or genuine use to anyone and it also lacks a specifying name. Any number of different objects can be “gizmos” (such as the plastic strips attached to the back of cars popular in the 1980s to “remove” static electricity), with no real scientific basis that they actually worked.' GIZMO is often used to refer some innovative products. It was a term coined by American media. VL1511 03-02-2011, 06:29 AM In my humble opinion, GIZMO and Gadgets are synonyms. I agree with Ravi that "gizmo" is a relatively recent creation of the American media when consumerism was on the rise. Even so, gadget is different. We talk about kitchen gadget, not kitchen gizmos. Gadget is proper word. Now, of course, anything is word, thanks to Sarah Palin's refudiate. :banana vishalkhandelwal 03-03-2011, 10:29 AM exactly................... :I agree: 'Gizmo' is certainly not an American invention, but a term invented by a French theorist Jean Baudrillard. And I think the people from the “Babyboomers’” age will agree with me. The children grow up with all this new technology but elder people have a hard time to get used to it at least lots of them. You buy a product and just when you finally got through it there are at least hundred new products that hit the market. Whether its and iPod, or a fancy cell phone, or a GPS system for your car or only a common TV, there is almost no end to modern advances in gadgets and gizmos. Developmobapp 12-11-2012, 04:03 PM Thanks for making me differentiate among gadget and gizmo.
