Default dilemma about MBA or working abroad

Hi Guys,
i have some queries , it will be really helpful if any body can answer this
QUERY
i have a about 4 yrs of work experiece s/w now i got offer to work abroad
on H1, but i also want to do MBA in IIMS I gave cat this time managed only 93% with no call from IIMS
iam preparing for 2005
my doubt is that is it ok to go abroad & gain work exp & i will be working as a consultant to some big s/w comp(LIKE BODY SHOPPING )
iam a be from ordinary college ,i feel at this point i might not be having a disadvantage in s/w because of market conditions
but in the long run working in abroad will it be use full without any good degree even though iam very good techie

as i got the offer to work abroad ?? & a i dont have much money or my family background is not sound enough to afford mba from us or uk
so should go to abroad or stay in banglore & prepare for CAT ,ISB,AIM etc

PLEASE SUGGEST

Default MBA or work abroad

Hi

I think that you need to takea little diff route for the problem. As it is better to have onein hand rather than 2 in bush, i will advise you toreap benefits of ongoing IT boom and go to US on H1.
In IIMs to get acall, you need toget 99.5 or above percentile and tht is quite a task.

I think best strategy for you will be to beinusfor more than 180 daysand get NRI status andthen get into any of the IIMs thru NRI seat bygiving GMAT. see this thread for infocon this and other topics in GMat forum

http://www.coolavenues.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=391

as per my knowledge all of the IIMs take students from NRI segment. further with more than 4 yrs of work ex, it willbe advisable to look atISB as well or try for US schools where loan or schol is available

Default

its not that i was preparing for last 4 yrs i thougt only 6 months back & gave cat 2004 , i believe i can get > 99.5 percentile THIS TIME
even i asked somany people who are studying in IIMA IT SELF WHO HAVE MORE THAN 5 YRS OF EXP
THEIR REPLY WAS " AS LONG AS U GET GOOD CAT SCORE LIKE MORE THAN 99.5 % I WILL BE HAVING A GOOD CHANCE TO MAKE IT IIMA"

WHAT ABOUT UR OPINION?????????

Default IIMs

Hi

I agree with you. I put around 4 months and cracked CAT. So if you can focus on it in right manner and work on I am sure you can get into IIMs.

But issue is also after IIMs. Hence I suggest that you also keep your GMAT option open as ISB and MBA abroad is better option for ppl who hv higher exp.

Just one thing, once you decide for CAT/ GMAT, dont bother about it in middle. Just finish it till the end

so Just do it
