New Pattern for XAT Scores......
If most of you have been bamboozled and disappointed by XAT Scores, then please don't be disheartened.
These figures really mean nothing.... They are not the PERCENTILE SCORES that we are used to in CAT and other similar tests.
In other tests, say CAT, If there are 100 students applying and you have a score of 60, but that is the second highest score, than you will have a percentile score of 99.. What this means is that 99% of the students are below you.
But things are very different in XAT 2005
Lets say your %score is 20% and your percentile is 35%
i) % score is %age to the max marks. You have got 20% as your percentage score - This means your score is 20% of max marks i.e 175 = 35
ii) percentile is the relative %age to the highest mark scored. You have got 35% percentile. This means your score is 35% of the highest scorer in XAT.
So please dont get confused the percentile as population distribution, its rather, marks distribution. This is the reason why you will find even the most expected student's percentile is around 50-55%. So, dont get panic ......... wait for the insitute result to drop.
Finally the higest score is around 81 (again unofficial).
Now lets do a real life case calculation for you.
If your %score is 14.09. That means your score is 14.09 * 175(max marks in XAT) = 24.66
Your percentile is 35.09. That means your score is 35.09% * 81(max marks in XAT) = 24.66
Calculate anyway it matches perfectly.
Hope this solves a lot of worries.....
All the best guys...
