Default my query :Help in my ambition

Hi Sivani and others,
On 23 march i posted this letter but i didn't get any answer till date though it has been viewed 67 times.................................
"............................................. ....

Hi all,
I'm very much new to this group though i fond it useful for the valuable information i got on this page.

Well, i've planned to appear for the GMAT test this year. But as naive to this ,i don't know how much GMAT score is required for getting a good seat in good college.I'm a little ambetious and i want to get into top Twenty-Five colleges around the world.
As i've read that just score is not enough to get a good college,so here i'm giving my personnel detail...............

1)working as s/w eng. in TATA ELXSI LIMITED in development team
2)Two years of work experience(full time)
3)65% in B.E(Electronics)

Looking this portfolio, how much i should score to get a single seat in top -notch college of the world.

I want to start my MBA after March 2007 , hence when should i appear for the GMAT test.

One more thing i want to know ,whether i've to take TOFEL also for going abroad if yes when i should appeare for that(if i want to take the course by next March)

with regards ,
SHRAWAN
.................................................. "
plz........if there is anyone who can guide me ,answer this ....................

Thanks

well i think this is here , ppl just ask but never contribute. so more views and no reply

well as far now your questions goes..

For indians GMAT score for top 20 schools shall be above 700 + min ( though average 740 shall be good) as Indians tend to score higher in GMAT

Well your profile is quite a similia profile and hence you need to score pretty good one in gmat as lot many applicants will hv a profile like yours

In all probability you shall take TOEFL, it wont do any harm and does not matter much. all you need to have is a passing mark.

thanks Sivani ,
as u said mine is an average profile , and to compete with other candidate from india i've to score more than 700+.But still i've one hunch regarding getting admission in Havard or good schools as they r looking for IIT background which i don't have..............so what i can do to increase my candidature for those schools. some of my friend told me to join some NGO but then it will interfare with my preparation also. They were also suggesting to get some article printed in financial newspaper to have better impression .Those who have time can try these things.Well what is right for me ............perhaps serious preparation....

What u guys think ......let me know.ur views will help me to see from other angle too...............fine.
thanx

hi sarvan,

I think only a good gmat score won't help in admission.
Obviously it has to be good.

But if you are trageting something like harvard, then Social Service and public service work does help a lot.

And you can spend some time on weekends with the NGOs. That will really help.

i agree with Ruchir. You need to have some strong reason to do an MBA from Harvard and show some exceptional quality for that

Don't waste your time doing social / community work just to make yourself a better candidate to Harvard. They will see through it in less than a minute of reading through your application. Instead, concentrate first on getting a good GMAT score first, try and rise up the ranks where you work and show good career progress using your initiative, team and leadership skills. Get the basics right. Likely to help more.

If you are targeting Harvard and such elite schools then you gotta work really hard.

Good GMAT score is essencial, but other things do matter a lot.

Avg GMAT score for such institutes ranges from 700-720, which is reasonable.

You can start hunting for some good NGO, and meanwhile focus primarly on GMAT. Once that is done, you can focus on social work.
