The Top 10 are the so-called 'Ivy-League' institutes that every student dreams of getting an admission into. Many of these institutes are comparable with the best in the world. Indeed, some of them regularly feature in the lists released by international business magazines. These institutes invariably have a 100% placement record. Even the not-so-good students at these institutes manage to get very good jobs on account of the rub-off effect of the institute.
The "A+" & "A" categories of institutes are those that fall into the Top 35. They offer a high quality of education in terms of faculty quality and infrastructure facilities. These institutes usually have a 100% placement record. Only the poor performers at these institutes may have some difficulties regarding placements. Some of the top students at these institutes should be able to secure placements that are comparable to those offered at the Top 10 institutes. Most students should be more than happy to join these institutes if they are able to get admission.
The "B+" category of institutes offers a consistent quality of education in terms of faculty quality and infrastructure facilities even though these may not be comparable to those of the top institutes. These institutes are successful in providing placements to their top students, especially those with good communication skills, but do not have a 100% placement record. A student at one of these institutes would have to work extra-hard to secure a good rank and high marks so as to enhance his placement chances.
The "B" category of institutes are those that are well regarded at a local level. These institutes may not provide too many national level placement opportunities but are generally successful in providing placements to many of their students with prominent local companies.
i think this thread could provide for an extensive databse for management aspirants k

hi,
i was going through time list and found that they have give only top 10 and A+ colleges. After that they have given list of other top 70 colleges in alphabetical order.
I believe the kind of explanation u have given for A+, A and B+, Great Lakes should not come in B+. It has 100% placement record and average salary of 7.3 lakhs.
I like to ask which college in top A has such a kind of placement and that too it's one year course, " money value of time".

Well the rankings quoted by TIME are always reliable. And by the way kindly do not get emotional about the 7.3 lacs average salary of Great Lakes as the credibility of an institute also matters and this year also GLIM gave calls to candidates who have not even applied to it.And when they asked for the advice from the coaching institutes they said that GLIM is like a good B-grade college but since it gives just a certificate of one year so it was just not advisable esp. for freshers to join it.
So,though you may feel GLIM shud be in top ten ,the others may feel that it is not even in top 50..!!

hi,
I think u are one of the frustrated lot who did't get admission in great lakes and now studying in c grade college like imi, new delhi. Now u are finding extremely difficult to digest that the salary @ great lakes is 7.3 lakhs and may be after 2 years of study at imi, delhi u will get job of 3.5 lakhs or not is a big question mark. I am writing imi, delhi because i don't know how many imi's are there in india and u say ur college is 25 years old!
Once again i request you to act constructively and help to make the discussion healthier and better.

I am really sorry to consider GLIM worth comparing to IMI.Well No more discussions over that ,your post makes it very clear that who is frustrated.
Well on one side IMI today is being compared to MDI,IMT-G,IIFT,SJMSOM,NMIMS and on the other hand i have compared it to the great GLIM which indeed is a major major mistake on my part as my colleagues in aforementioned b-schools are telling me.
No more comments over it.Keep shouting that GLIM is the best, even after seeing TIMEs rankings...
bye,
God Bless.
Guys, A really kiddish behavior by both of you. People will have fun and good time pass seeing the posts by both of you-Shivaknu & Manish.
IMI and Great Lakes can not be compared boss because of several reasons
-->The program structures are different - IMI-a 2 year program while Great Lakes-1 year program.
-->IMI..while generally meant for freshers-just out of graduation; Great lakes meant for work-ex guys, probably because of its intensive program
-->IMI relies heavily on the permamnent faculty; Great Lakes relies on Visiting International faculties-mostly from US B-Schools
-->IMI's admission is based on CAT scores/GD/Interview while Great Lakes mostly on GMAT scores (except few on CAT scores in-liew of GMAT)/Essay/Wor-ex/GD/Interview/Value to the class partcipation
Regarding Time ranking-this is based on available data and input with them
from the public sources. Saying that Time ranking is reliable and not any others, lets say CF or CL or IMS or PT, can be personal opinion. Any coaching institute's traditional bread and butter has been CAT preparatory courses till the time they graduate for GMAT prep courses. They will take time to give due importance to Institutes having GMAT score as entry criteria. It took 5 Years in case of ISB. Similarly, they will recognize other institutes in due course of time. They will always advice to a fresher or person with negligible exp to join a 2 year program because they will have difficulty in grasping MBA program in to-to ina One year intensive program
Guys, plz don't get sentimental for your institute so much that you start bad-mouthing and downgrading other schools in public forum.
