3.5.2 Publications and Rankings

The specialist publication, QS Top MBA Career Guide rose in popularity by more than 25% to closely follow BusinessWeek and the Financial Times as a prime source of information on business schools.
Overall, the percentage of respondents using significant published sources, including rankings, fell in keeping with the finding that applicants find them overall much less useful than in previous years.
Showing a particular drop, though still the most popular, BusinessWeek is used by 61% (67%) ((70%)) (((77%))), much more closely followed by the Financial Times 55% (53%), QS Top MBA Career Guide rises by more than 25% to closely follow at 54% (42%). 38% (36%) use the Economist, 31% (34%) US News and World Report and 30% (33%) the Wall Street Journal.

4. RESULTS IN DETAIL

4.1 SAMPLE

5470 (3934) people submitted a completed survey, representing a response rate of approx 9.3% of the 59,000 applicants surveyed. A statistically significant (in excess of 0.5%) response to individual questions was achieved from 37 countries.

The number of respondents to the survey grew in comparison with last year in most countries visited by the QS World MBA Tour. As in 2005, the 5 countries producing most respondents were (highest first): India, Egypt, USA, Malaysia and China (China and Malaysia). Other countries contributing statistically most significantly to the research included: Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, France, Germany, Greece, (Hungary), Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, (South Africa), Spain, Thailand, Turkey, UK, Ukraine and Venezuela. The findings provide real insight into the attitudes towards MBA study in each country.
