1. INTRODUCTION

The TopMBA.com Survey of MBA Applicants 2006 is the largest ever conducted. Year on year, the results give detailed insight into the status, mindset, attitudes, goals and ambitions of MBA applicants worldwide and how they and the employment / education market for young professionals is changing.

The 59,000 applicants who registered for the QS World MBA Tour Fairs in the Autumn of 2005 and Spring 2006, were surveyed. Responses were received from 5470. This figure represents a 39% increase over the number for 2005 (3934). Those surveyed were primarily young professionals, but also included many more experienced executives.

The TopMBA.com Survey of MBA Applicants 2006 explores what motivates MBA applicants, who they are, what they are doing before applying for an MBA, where they want to study, their school selection criteria, the financing options available to them, which are the most popular schools and the sources of information on schools they find the most useful. The report also identifies their career aspirations, in terms of sector of employment, salary and preferred future employers. Anyone considering going to business school, working at a business school, recruiting MBAs, or simply interested in the MBA arena, will find the results fascinating.

Data from respondents was also analysed according to gender. This year, particularly interesting results have been identified in regard to the numbers and attitudes of female MBA applicants.

The survey is primarily designed to produce global data and the report reflects this. The report also highlights regional comparisons and individual countries where data is particularly striking. The data also provides detailed country-by-country information on applicants and their mindset that is too extensive to be included in a global report. This unique feature will be of interest to business schools, recruiters, the media and MBA applicants and can be provided separately, on application, as a special service.
