4.3 ASIA PACIFIC

Year on year business schools in Asia are strengthening their role in the MBA market. Increasing numbers of recruiters are willing to hire locally from the region. The presence of the INSEAD campus in Singapore has helped this trend, though INSEAD in Singapore slips down three places to 4th this year to be replaced by the National
University of Singapore Business School, which rises a significant seven place to take the most preferred spot.

Australia is also seeing the emergence of ever more international class business schools. Hard on the heels of the excellent performance of many Australian universities in the THES - QS World University Rankings (see TopUniversities.com), Australian business schools continue to do well with recruiters. Melbourne Business School keeps its 2nd place. The Australian Graduate School of Management, which slips five places is also joined in the top-10 by the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, which appears in 9th for the first time.

Currently, the top-10 most preferred schools in the Asia Pacific region comprise three Singapore schools, identifying it as the most significant centre of management education in the region. There are three Australian schools; one Indian, The Indian Institute of Management, an institution actually comprising many centers, maintaining fifth place and four from China (including Hong Kong). In 2003, for the first time, 15 Asia Pacific business schools (including Australia) qualified for the overall global top-100 schools, based on level of response and interest from recruiters. If current trends continue, we predict there will soon be 20 business schools in Asia able to call themselves part of the Global Top 100.

Please refer to the table on Page 17 for the full list of the 10 schools in Asia Pacific most favoured by recruiters.
