5.5 OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

Operations management (supply chain, logistics, manufacturing) is also often an attraction for engineers, keen to make the transition from a technical specialist to a technical manager.

Supply chain, logistics and manufacturing are the mainstay work for many strategy consultancies, as well as being key drivers of profitability for most distribution and industrial companies. MIT, Wharton, Michigan and Harvard are well established in this field and produce large amounts of leading edge research in the field. Many less well-known schools are also leading edge in this field. In Europe, Rotterdam School of Management, Warwick Business School and Cranfield University School of Management can compare with the best schools in this competency.
