Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century and its projected continuation. The scientific consensus is that global warming is occurring and is mostly the result of human activity.
This finding is recognized by the national science academies of all the major industrialized countries and is not rejected by any scientific body of national or international standing.
According to an Economic Times report, noted environmentalist R K Pachauri said the Himalayan glaciers are melting at a "very rapid pace" on Tuesday, but did not refer to his earlier assertion that the glaciers could disappear by 2035, for which he had come under sharp attack from the government and others.
"Though the issue is part of one of the eight mission of National Action plan for climate change announced in 2008, nothing concrete has been done so far to address the problem," Pachauri said.
What will be the consequences if the issue of global warming is not taken care of?
Do you think rumors like 2012 can really be true someday?
