An Interview with Varun Saxena, a PGDIM student at NITIE

CoolAvenues spoke to Varun Saxena, a PGDIM (Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management) student at NITIE about his experience regarding his preparation for exams, choosing the right institute, handling GD (Group Discussion) and PI (Personal Interview) and life at NITIE Mumbai.

 

A B.Tech (2004-08) in Electronics & Communication Engineering from M.M.M. Engineering College, Gorakhpur and a PGDIM student at NITIE Mumbai, Varun Saxena has worked as SAP-MDM Consultant in Infosys Technologies Limited for 18 months.

Q. Tell us something about your life before and beyond MBA.

I have been the Vice President of IEEE Student Branch during my engineering college days apart from being the co-founder of Electronics and Communication Engineering Society in college.

I love socializing and have a very strong social network across top league B-Schools, engineering colleges and in IT industry. I am Community Leader at Pagalguy.com, the leading MBA forum of the country.

I have been providing counseling to many MBA aspirants and share a good reputation with them.

In NITIE, I am the student coordinator of Branding and Promotion committee of college and also serve as the coordinator of Supply Chain Interest Group, Chain to Excellence of college.

Q. So when did you decide to go for MBA and what was the driving force behind to take this decision?

I have been inclined towards MBA since 3rd year of engineering. The major drive has been the career growth and career opportunities it provides in long term. Also, it gets aligned with ,y dream of being into managerial positions and not just limiting myself to technical aspects of the endeavors I take up in future.


Q. Do you feel that your work experience has helped you in getting through the college of your choice?

Yes, my work experience as SAP-MDM consultant did help me.

 

Q. Will an MBA degree add on to your existing career plan or did you decide to switch/start a career in management?
I plan to move into consultancy or FMCG where definitely work ex will help me.

 

Q. If you have opted for this course for a change in your career track, what made you feel so of changing your career track?

I won’t term the career path I have chosen to be the entire change in career track. It is leveraging the work experience but in some other profile which has a different career path and growth.
