CAT 2012 kicks-off today

Common Admission Test (CAT) 2012 has kicked-off today for admissions to 13 IIMs and 172 private collages who are accepting CAT scores this year. The exam will be conducted online starting October 11 till November 6, 2012 at 61 test sites across 36 cities in a 21 days test window.
Unlike last year, total registrations for CAT 2012 has gone up by 9,000 with 2,14,068 students registered for the exam this year.
CAT is a 140 minutes duration exam split into two sections, namely Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning. Candidates will be allowed 70 minutes for each section carrying 30 questions each and each section has to be attempted in their order with separate time limits. Switching between the sections will not be allowed.
The online paper pattern of CAT was first introduced in 2009, when CAT changed is avatar from being traditional paper-pencil test.
The Delhi/NCR region has 11 test centres5 in Delhi, 2 in Greater Noida and one each in Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Noida.
The exam will be conducted in two sessionsmorning and evening. The morning session will starts at 10am. Candidates appearing for the test in the morning session will have to reach the centres for security check and verification by 8.30am. For the afternoon session, which starts at 3.15pm, the candidates need to report at the centres by 1.45pm.
'Things are smooth and we hope to have a good run like last year. The whole team has been visiting the centres and ensuring that everything is in place,' professor S S S Kumar of IIM, Khozikode, who is the CAT 2012 convenor, quoted to Times of India.
The results of CAT 2012 will be declared January 9, 2013.
