Bharathidasan Institute of Management dates back to August 1984, when Bharat Ratna Shri C. Subramanian along with Prof. P. S. Mani Sundaram, the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University chaired a meeting of leading academicians and industrialists and BIM was started.

BIM has been the front-runner in providing world-class contemporary management education. Bharathidasan Institute of Management has been creating business leaders for past 22 years. BIM's connection with various academicians and corporate endows it with the premier status. BIM has been instrumental in providing ready industry leaders who occupy top-notch positions in various sectors. Carrying the same legacy forward, BIM has started a 15-Months PGDBM Programme and a 16-Month PGDBM Weekend Executive Programme at its Bangalore Campus, to make the management education more contemporary and provide industry with future business leaders.

Bharathidasan Institute of Management, Bangalore, was started in October 2005 and has achieved milestones which various other B-schools have not covered. BIM-Bangalore provides two industry specific programmes - 15 months PGDBM (regular) and 16 months PGDBM (weekend executive). The intake is 100 spreading twice in a year. The degree is awarded by Bharathidasan University, Thiruchirapalli. The institute accepts CAT / XAT and BIM Aptitude Test (BAT) Scores. For regular PGDBM, students scoring minimum 50% marks in under graduation or post-graduation from a recognized university are encouraged to apply. However, the institute gives preference to people with 2 or more years of experience. Outstanding graduates with less than 2 years of work experience may be considered on a case to case basis. The infrastructure at BIM-Bangalore is extremely good and the campus is fully wi-fi enabled. "The Knowledge Center" caters to the food for brains at BIM-B. Students at BIM Bangalore are mentored by some of the finest of professors from top B-schools in India and various other academic institutions in the country. Other academicians from various industries mentor the students as well. The institute also invites various top level executives from the industry to provide inputs on application of management fundamentals in work life and also groom them.
