2. Admission Process

General Questions

How can one procure the application form for the various programs offered by your institute?

From IILM Campus, IILM Website, Training Institutes like PT, Career Launcher, IMS, CH, etc.

Please explain the various stages in admission process for each of the programs offered by you. (E.g., written test, interview, group discussion, etc.)

Written Tests like CAT / MAT / XAT followed by GD & PI at various locations across the country.

What is the most important stage / aspect of the entire process (with maximum weightage)?

At IILM, we look at a holistic profile of an applicant which also includes his/her future aspirations, clarity of purpose, and personality attributes. His grades, test results, essays, interviews, and achievements outside the classroom, are among the factors used to evaluate this promise, but no one of these measures is considered determinative.

What are the skills/qualities you want to test during exam, interview and GD?

Written Test: Aptitude
Interview: Subject Knowledge, Clarity of Purpose, Communication Skills, General Awareness
Group Discussion: Initiation, Content, Team Work

How do you ensure the diversity of the class?

Interviews and GDs are conducted at various locations across the country. Due weightage is given to candidates with different academic backgrounds and experience.

Academic Background

Are engineers more preferred over non-engineers?

YES.

Is there a separate cut-off for engineers and non-engineers? Do you evaluate the two types of candidates differently?

NO.

How important are grades in the selection process?

20% weightage.

Work Experience

How important is work experience for the selection?

5%.

What is the school's ideal amount of work experience?

2 years.

Are applicants with 1 year of work experience evaluated differently than candidates with 5 years under their belts?

Yes.

How much professional experience is too much? Is a candidate, say, with 12 years of work experience going to fit into the program?

No, but our executive program will suit such candidates much better as his level of experience and maturity is different.

Interview

What kind of questions can an interviewee expect to hear during an interview?

Depends on interviewer and interviewee's background.

What attributes are you looking for when you interview candidates?

Clarity of Purpose, Subject Knowledge, General Awareness, Personality.

How long do your interviews last?

About 15 minutes approximately.

Group Discussions

What do you want to learn about candidates in GDs?

Content, Initiation, Team Working.

Do you expect a thorough knowledge of the topic being discussed?

No.

What is the worst thing a candidate can do during GD?

He keeps quiet or starts a debate with others.

Waiting List

How many applicants are placed on wait-list? And how many eventually make it off?

5-10%

Ultimately, what is it that separates accepted applicants from the wait-listed and denied folks?

Overall profile and personal merit of the candidate.

General

How can applicants convince you and your staff that they are a good match for the program?

By having positive energy and body language during the GDs & Interviews, demonstrating intellectual talent, and by being aware and clear about themselves and their surroundings.

What's the worst thing an applicant can do during the selection process?

Provide fake information or show negative body language.

Well, what are the general characteristics that the B-school is looking for in a candidate?

IILM Institute looks for candidates who possesses and demonstrates the intellectual talent, imagination and qualities of mind and character that will allow them to benefit from our curriculum and contribute to the life of the college and society.

Which aspect of the application should an applicant be most concerned with to make himself/herself a competitive player?

Clarity of purpose and positive personality attributes.
