Please explain the various stages in admission process for each of the programs offered by you. (E.g., test, interview, group discussions, etc.)

  • Written Test: CAT 2006

  • GD & PI: Conducted during Mid-February onwards. Interviews last for about 30-45 minutes for each candidate, and are conducted in Noida, Lucknow, Jaipur, Varanasi, Patna, Kolkata, Bangalore and Mumbai. GD&PI Centres get added or dropped depending upon the quantum of response from candidates.

What is the most important stage / aspect of the entire process (with maximum weightage)?

    CAT Score.

What are the skills/qualities you want to test during exam, interview and GD?

    Interview:
    1. Goal Clarity & Managerial Aptitude
    2. Subject Knowledge
    3. General Awareness
    4. Overall Personality & Social Grace

    Group Discussion:
    1. Communication skills including listening skills
    2. Quality of content
    3. Leadership skills & skills of Managing Conflict / Disagreement
    4. Group Behaviour including Managing Group
    5. Q/A Ability & Logical Arguments

How do you ensure the diversity of the class?

By encouraging non-engineering non-commerce students through equated cut-off in examination scores.

    Academic Background

Are engineers more preferred over non-engineer?

    NO.

Is there a separate cut-off for engineers and non-engineers? Do you evaluate the two types of candidates differently?

Non-engineers are equated through equated cut-off in examination score.

How important are grades in the selection process?

Not really, except in the level of intelligence reflected in the candidates participation in GD and Personal Interview.

How do you take an applicant's undergraduate alma mater into consideration?

    Not really.

    Work Experience

How important is work experience for the selection?

Work experience is preferred provided experience is of at least managerial / supervisory level in credible organizations, or the experience gained is of credible nature even if that is from entrepreneurial or small business firm.

What kind of work experience is preferred?

    Managerial / Supervisory.

What is the school's ideal amount of work experience?

    Between 2 and 5 years.

Are applicants with 1 year of work experience evaluated differently than candidates with 5 years under their belts?

Yes, depending on the depth of experience.

How much professional experience is too much? Is a candidate, say, with 12 years of work experience going to fit into the program?

It all depends upon the experience-mix of the class. Given a class largely of freshers, we find that candidates with more than 5 years of experience may not fit well, as of now, since we are a new school.

    Interview

What kinds of questions can an interviewee expect to hear during an interview?

  • Relating to the subjects studied at the under-graduate level.

  • Relating to the quality of experience, where applicable.

  • Relating to general business aptitude.

  • Relating to current general awareness at national / regional / global level.

  • Relating to creativity in day-to-day working including problem solving.

  • Relating to dealing with stress.

  • Relating to one's strengths, weaknesses, career ambitions and life goals.

What attributes are you looking for when you interview candidates?

  • Goal Clarity & Managerial Aptitude: Clarity of Thought

  • Subject Knowledge: Seriousness in Studies

  • General Awareness: Alertness, Relatability and Comparisons.

  • Overall Personality & Social Grace: Leadership, Initiative, Carriage, Confidence, Respect for Others.

How long do your interviews last?

    Interviews last about 30-45 minutes.

Is a long interview better than a short interview?

Depends on the ability of the candidate to convince the selection board as to what he brings along to qualify as a superior candidate for the course.

    Group Discussions

What do you want to learn about candidates in GDs?

  • Communication Skills including Listening Skills

  • Quality of Content: Ability to think on the feet

  • Leadership Skills & Skills of Managing Conflict / Disagreement

  • Group Behaviour including Managing Group: Team Orientation and Executive Mannerism & Etiquettes

  • Q/A Ability & Logical Arguments

Do you expect a thorough knowledge of the topic being discussed?

  • Arguments for the heck of it.

  • Not giving chance to others or not listening to others.

  • Contradictory statements.

  • Noise, but no sense.

  • Disregard for the viewpoints of others in the group.

    Waiting List

How many applicants are placed on wait-list? And how many eventually make it off?

Nearly 30. About half of them eventually make it.

Ultimately, what is it that separates accepted applicants from the wait-listed and denied folks?

Consistency in performance in various stages of selection - Test Score, GD and PI Performance.

    General

By fulfilling the expectations as listed above in the GD and Personal Interview.

Bluff, show falsehood, give inconsistent responses and weak knowledge base.

    Fill-in-the-blank: -

Applicants should apply to your program if they're interested in... The serious rigor required for a high quality management programme.

And on the other side of the coin, MBA candidates should not apply to your program if they're interested in... Just passing time, be pseudo and throw around weight without any substance or substantiation.
