Hurdle Race for Admission to MBA in IIT Madras

by Rachana *

Page - 1

Getting admission into any B-school is like participating in hurdle race - its tough, strenuous and exhausting... but the winner has an immense sense of satisfaction that is incomparable. DoMS, IIT-Madras has a profound yet simple admission procedure, which tests the student in all aspects and understands all the dimensions of the student through small steps that to an MBA aspirant seem milestones.
So the race begins!!!

Ready, Get Set and Go...

Step 1: JMET

JMET (Joint Management Entrance Test) Exam is the preliminary step to the admission of any of the six IITs.

Step 2: Application

You need to apply to IIT Madras depending on your rank. A certain range of ranks (changing year by year) are generally eligible for the GT / PI calls.

Step 3: SOP

Along with the application form, a SOP (Statement of Purpose) has to be sent. The essay must contain your reason for wanting to do MBA in general and your reason for choosing IIT Madras in particular.

Just a word of warning - it's not advisable to copy one of the thousand SOPs available in the net as DoMS, IITM strongly believes in individuality and originality. If your SOP is not a representation of your dreams and aspirations, your lack of honesty might get you into trouble during the PI.

Step 4: GT (Group Task)

IIT Madras has made a specific effort to use GT as a means of evaluation instead of GD, as group tasks test your ability to work in a group and arrive at solutions. Being a knowledgeable and eloquent speaker is just not enough, because a GT provides you with a case that you need to work on as a group. You win if you manage to make your team win. It is Team Spirit all the way!!!
