1. General Questions

Background

Q. Can you tell something about yourself and your pre-MBA qualifications?
A. I am an Economics graduate (University rank-holder) from Sophia College, Mumbai. After my graduation, I worked with IDBI Bank for 20 months in the Credit Administration & Remedial Management Department, Corporate Banking in Mumbai.

Q. So when did you decide to go for MBA?
A. Ever since my high school days, I had planned to do an MBA. In fact I was confused about my under-graduate degree (the dilemma between Economics and Engineering), but strangely, I was very focused about pursuing a degree in Business Management.

Q. What was your first step to start preparation for getting into the school of your choice?
A. Since I was working for 10 hours a day, I started my preparation early. I tried to put in around 2 hours per day for 10 months and also joined a coaching institute to channelise my efforts effectively. My first aim was to brush up on my quantitative basics since it was my weak link.

Q. Which MBA institutes and programs you identified for your MBA?
A. I targeted the top institutes in India, like the IIMs, XLRI, SP Jain, FMS, SIBM, SCMHRD, XIMB, GIM, TAPMI, NMIMS. Although I was inclined towards Finance, I wanted to keep my options open and make a more informed choice once I have had the taste of all the fields in the 1st year. The reputation, faculty, alumni and infrastructure were more important for me.
