Placement 2003

Final Placements at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade

The constant shrieks of delight that resounded in the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade last week made it an unforgettable event. It is that time of year again when companies vie for final year placements at top business schools across the nation. The scene at IIFT had a livewire of excitement running through it as hordes of reputed corporate giants like Hindustan Lever, ITC, BMC, Agrotech, Telco and Dabur opened their selection processes inside IIFT campus. The entire senior batch of 96 students was placed in well known companies that turned up on campus bright and early in the morning. Other domestic companies that were invited on campus were IOCL and ONGC, ESSAR, Eicher, i-flex, GTB, Wockhardt, IMRB and Dr. Reddy's. Apart from these, numerous foreign International business corporates such as OLAM and Kuok also recruited students. In all it was a good mix of domestic and foreign players with a fine balance of well to do Public sector and private companies showing up on campus.

As one senior executive from a well known FMCG company put it "We would have loved to take many more students but only for the responsibilities open in our company. IIFT is certainly one institute we would love to be invited back to". As it happened, many companies ended up selecting a lot more students than they had originally fixed their target at. ITC limited selected four people, BMC gave spot offers to three students and HLL also had a pre-placement offer for its summer intern from IIFT. Such a process led to many companies having to go back empty handed by the end of the placement procedure as students had all already got placed.

Apart from the excellent jobs that IIFT students have landed, the exciting part of the placement procedure was the astounding number of spot offers.

Also, seeing the quality of students at IIFT and the organised manner in which both the graduating and the junior batch have gone about handling the companies and placement procedure, a lot of companies that were invited on campus for final placements have expressed a desire for visiting campus to offer summer internships as well.

The summer internship process for IIFT is currently on with many students already placed and others gearing up for interactions with companies. The summer recruiters who have been here are HLL, TAS, ABN Amro, ITC, Maruti, Telco, SRF, TVS, McCann Eriksson; lined up are others such as Bharti, UB Group, HPCL etc.
