Placement 2003

 Summer Placements at IIM, Kozhikode

As an integral part of the MBA course, summer projects are designed to provide MBA students an opportunity to put their learning into practice, while enabling companies to use quality managers-in-the-making for real-life short-term assignments.

The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) started the summer placement process for the 6 th batch (class of 2004) in the month of October 2002 and all the students of the batch were placed in record time. A wide spectrum of companies made a beeline for IIMK’s campus to recruit summer interns, with a few choosing to conduct the selection process via the video conferencing route. FMCGs were well represented by traditional favourites such as HLL, Godrej, and Asian Paints among others. PepsiCo was a new entrant in the marketing sector, besides others like Wockhardt, Madura Coats, Pidilite, Becton Dickinson, Novartis and Glaxo SmithKline. The Banking and Financial Services sector was a major participant including organisations like ICICI Bank, UTI Bank, BNP Paribas, ABN Amro Bank, NSE and IDBI Bank, some of whom made offers to several students. There was a surge in the representation of the Operations sector with Whirlpool, Ashok Leyland, Lafarge, L&T, TVS Motors, Anand Group, Exide, Electrolux and British Oxygen visiting IIMK’s campus. The Systems bandwagon was carried by Patni Computer Systems, Maveric Systems, TCS, Ramco Systems and Mascot Systems. An international summer internship offer was made by the OTE group in the Middle East. Bharti was a notable recruiter in the Telecom domain. There were also other prominent names like RPG and O&M.

For the first time an NPO (non-profit organisation), Greenpeace India, offered a summer project to one of the students. As before the bulk of the projects offered were in marketing. A total of 37 companies made summer internship offers to the 1st year batch of 59 students with stipends as high as Rs.15,000/- p.m.
