Placement 2004: The Complete Story


   HIGHLIGHTS: PLACEMENTS 2004   
  • In Placement 2004, Finance & Banking made a strong comeback where 28% of the batch in IIMs was placed in this sector.

  • Riding on the global recovery in IT spending, IT placements also showed the recovery with 29% of the batch in IIMs got placed in IT.

  • After continuous decline for two years, consulting again showed some sign of revival with 10.5% of batch getting placed in Consulting.

  • Highest Indian Salary was offered at ISB, Hyderabad with an offer of Rs. 20.55 Lakhs made.

  • At ISB, Highest salary was Rs 20.55 lakh but average salary was just Rs 9.05 lakh indicating a large no of batch getting placed at sub 9 lak level. ISB annual fee is around 11 lakh.

  • Highest Overseas Salary being claimed by ISB Hyderabad - US $ 151,768.

  • IIMA justifies claims of being a Global Brand as the no. of overseas offers made at IIMA exceeded those made in any B-school in India.

  • Over 20% of IIMA batch was placed overseas reflecting an increase in the number of foreign offers from 39 in 2003 to 45 in 2004.

  • Some International Companies such as the Amex SPG, Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley recruit only from this institute.

  • IT related services and Finance/ Banking Sector claimed most students from IIMs, while students at other top schools went for Marketing/ FMCG in a big way.

  • Marked rise in Salaries offered this year from last year.

  • Engineers forming most of the passing-out batches in all Business schools, followed closely by Commerce graduates.

  • Increased options for students as sectors such as Insurance, BPO, Shipping and Holiday Services appeared for recruitment.

  • Freshers still comprising maximum portion of mgmt students, in contrast with Ivy League Business schools abroad.

  • XLRI Campus Placement Process Goes Online.

  • DMS-IT Delhi, TAPMI-Manipal, whose full time MBA programmes started few years back, emerging as creditable B-Schools.

  • CAT Scam & ongoing controversy between IIMs & MHRD failed to create any dent in the placements at IIMs.
